Mother Jones: "Louisiana Tea Partiers Rally for More Drilling"
Mac on the job! Glad she is down there. My head would explode.

Things started sensibly enough. We bowed our heads and prayed that God would lift the drilling ban; the president of Terrebonne Parish (below) declared that Obama's deepwater drilling moratorium was an "economic disaster of biblical proportions." Senator David Vitter's state director, David Doss, read a statement from the Louisiana Republican, who said he was unable to attend due to a canceled flight but "looks forward to working with you all and we must push forward to end this devastating moratorium on drilling."

But other than that, the rally was mostly two hours of yelling about how climate change is natural—"I've never seen CO2 in the air, have you ever seen CO2 in the air??"—how Barack Obama is simultaneously trying to enslave the American population and steal from it, and how welfare recipients should have to be regularly drug tested. One speaker gave the usual "We don't need the government" speech, followed immediately by, "If the government was doing its job making sure MMS did its job, we wouldn't be here. Why wasn't the government looking down their throats?" Another speaker pointed out that we're at two wars, one in Iran and one in Afghanistan, and that if we're not careful, the president of Israel, Ahmadinejad, is going to gain enough power to take over the world

. . . and if somebody thinks Sarah Palin would make a good president, it's a pretty good bet that such a person is that big of a fool.

11. Swampy - what is WRONG with these people?
Is the local news pushing this or something? This simply astounds me, especially on the heels of Katrina. It isn't like south LA doesn't know the true definition of disaster.

12. Tell me this tea bags
How do you know, that if, drilling resumes they are fail-safe. That the parts to prevent a blow out are really on the wells. Most of the regulations were lifted by Cheney (and bush) they say during those so called secret energy meetings. So most of the wells aren't safe. And they are so deep how can they go about making sure they can go down and put the equipment on. But then of course if something should happen it would all be Obama's fault again.

After all some ex republican congress woman was on Matthews and she was saying the governors of the states involved were more concerned than Obama. That they were coming out every day and giving reports. So what should Obama do, set up a tent on the shore and have the press hand him a mike so he could inform the people. Next thing he would be criticized because he was spending too much time at the Gulf. No matter what he does the republicans are going to say what he is doing is wrong. So he should just tell them to put a sock in it.

13. These good folks apparently think we are at war with Iran and Ahmadinejad runs Israel.
I don't even know where to begin with that, much less the MORE Government LESS Government arguments.

What if we film them and make them watch themselves speak?

Truly at a loss here.

14. Remind your tea bagger friends that if a military airplane crashes the fleet is grounded.
Once the cause of the crash is determined the planes go back in the air. Once we know how to handle a spill in deep water, the ban will be lifted.

15. How many of those that made the CO2 statement are religious?
Shouldn't they support the truth that God doesn't exist? None of them have seen God in the air.

16. I swear, I just don't understand this.
These folks' state is in the midst of an on going catastrophe and yet they're pushing for the same thing that is devastating the state.

I need some major drugs to begin to comprehend this, and yes I've read many times about the fishermen who also work on rigs, but damn the disconnect just blows my mind.
