Pentagon to Rebuild Data Base on People “of Interest”

Pentagon to Rebuild Data Base on People “of Interest”
By Matthew Rothschild
June 21, 2010

The Pentagon wants to create another unit to keep records on a whole range of people.

The unit is called the Foreign Intelligence and Counterintelligence Operation Records.

The Pentagon says it is seeking records on “individuals involved in, or of interest to, DoD intelligence, counterintelligence, counterterrorism and counternarcotic operations or analytical projects, as well as individuals involved in foreign intelligence and/or training activities.”

For the most part, this language seems designed to cover people working for or with the Pentagon. But it also includes anyone “of interest to” the Pentagon’s intelligence operations, which could mean just about anybody.

Under this new operation, the Pentagon could get your Social Security number, your phone number, your license plates, your passport number, your citizenship status, and your biometric data.

This new intelligence gathering operation is set to begin on July 15, unless there’s enough public outcry.

1. The data is available, it will be used, and not for the betterment of citizens
Thank you for posting this.

2. The same thing happened to the anti-war activists and civil rights activists in the 60's.
Notice they are not keeping tabs on right wing extremists.

5. Does anyone seriously think the NSA doesn't already have all that info on all of us, and a lot more?
They spent hundreds of millions on profiling and data analysis on US Citizens, and non-citizens alike. There is little distinction anymore in the interception, warehousing, and data-mining of international communications.

We're all part of a vast relationship map, and all suspect because we have an expressed interest in what some small-minded imbeciles in the Pentagon have labeled "radical" Left-wing politics.

What's your algorithm?

9. They have more data than they can manage,as it is.
It's the meaning of it all that has them baffled. Information without understanding is just too much white noise and distraction. Some people understand that, and knew there were (and continue to be) huge holes created by too many compartmentalized operations going on with too little public control and accountability. So, they exploited those gaps. That's how we got into this mess.

Nothing's changed.

7. Great effort by Obama. It allows govt. to use its power to infringe upon the rights of any citizen
without due process and protection of the judicial branch.

Once We the People accept the bridle of those who control the seat of power in our republican form of government, corporatists can tighten their stranglehold on our government.

Richard Rumbold (1685) was clearly wrong when in his speech from the scaffold in 1685 he said "I am sure there was no man born marked of God above another, for none comes into the world with a saddle on his back, neither any booted and spurred to ride him."

Thank goodness a Democratic president has shown We the People the error of our ways and that Dubya was a high priest of Mammon endorsed by divine forces.
