BP was told rig was unsafe weeks before blast
BP was told of oil safety fault 'weeks before blast

By Hilary Andersson
BBC Panorama, Washington

A Deepwater Horizon rig worker has told the BBC that he identified a leak in the oil rig's safety equipment weeks before the explosion.

Tyrone Benton said the leak was not fixed at the time, but that instead the faulty device was shut down and a second one relied on.

BP said rig owners Transocean were responsible for the operation and maintenance of that piece of equipment. Transocean said it tested the device successfully before the accident.

9. Begin? It's Been Non-Stop
Sounds like someone (probably from another possible claimant, such as Halliburton) is trying to really drop a dime on BP and the MMS here. There's going to be indictments and more law suits on the way and the worse they can make BP look the less questions they have to ask about their own negligence.

5. I continue to point out that Hayward , Goldman-Sachs and other
large investment firms, might have known about the well's difficulties prior to there large sales of BP stock. If this could be proven to be true, Hayward and others could be tried for gross insider trading. They sold late March.

6. That would be the Cherry on top!
But what are the odds of any consequences? Somewhere between nil and none.

10. I don't know. If Hayward and others at BP were well aware of the
risks weeks before the explosion they possibly could be convicted on negligent homicide or whatever it would be called when someone caused the deaths of others through negligence.
