Impact of War Hits Hard on Father's Day
Impact of War Hits Hard on Father's Day

Boston Herald

The question of what to get Dad for Father's Day is always a tough one.

Another bad tie? A silly golf gadget? Fishing gear?

For Sheri Williams, a mother of four from Auburn, N.H., the answer is more complicated.

Her husband Mark Williams, 36, a chaplain in the Army reserves, was deployed to Afghanistan last week.

"My 4-year-old son is madly in love with his father, so he daily recognizes his absence," Williams told the Herald during a phone interview.

unhappycamper comment: For the rest of this year Mark will miss birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and most likely Easter also. Overseas postings (especially to a combat zone) are tough.
