'Veterans Today' supports Helen Thomas in Wapo Poll! Results 92%
Apparently Helen Thomas' decades-long support for Veterans has not been forgotten by them. In the linked post below they asked Veterans to show their support for her by voting in the Washington Post Poll asking if she should remain in the WH press corps or not!!

Yay for them! You can see the poll HERE Overwhelming support for Helen! 92%!

:applause: :bounce: :applause: :bounce: :applause: :bounce: :applause: for Helen's Veteran Friends!

Helen Needs Our Support

VETERAN SUPPORTER, HELEN THOMAS, SUBJECT OF WASHINGTON POST POLL
By Gordon Duff

Veterans Today urges veterans and any supporter of American values to give their support to Helen Thomas, one of the few to stand up for America only and especially for the needs of American veterans during her 57 year career. We urge our readers to contact everyone they know. Helen’s 90th birthday is coming up. Our support would be an excellent gift for someone who has given so much more than she has ever received.

Gordon Duff is a Marine Vietnam veteran, grunt and 100% disabled vet.

A very nice Birthday Present from Helen's Veteran friends.

the cowardly DC Press Corps are willing to stand up against it. Ironically, the war on Helen was started by the symbol of that war, Ari "they-better-watch-what-they-say" Fleischer.

And the unrec'ers of posts in support of Helen and our right to speak freely in this country, should know that Americans have finally grown tired of being selectively silenced.

Maybe they went too far when they went after Helen, whatever it is, if we are too afraid to stand up for someone like Helen Thomas, we are truly lost and after the initial shock of what happened to Helen began to wear off, support for her continues to grow.

2. I don't know who the first defender of Helen Thomas and our right
to free speech was after she was forced to resign, but as the days go by, outrage over her firing grows as more and more respected Americans take a stand against what happened to her.

Jon Stewart was one of those who raised the question of how much more of our right to speak freely we are willing go give up and according to Huffpo columnist, Mike Green, deserves a pulitzer for his defense of Helen Thomas:Jon Stewart Deserves Pulitzer for Defense of Helen Thomas

Jon Stewart Deserves Pulitzer for Defense of Helen Thomas

Stewart skewered the White House press corps for its response to the untimely resignation of the venerable media matron Helen Thomas by roasting them over the flames of their own inadequacies. Brilliantly so.

Using a comedic style that has catapulted his Comedy Central program to the forefront of the list of must-watch news programs, Stewart capitalizes upon sad reflections of America's failed fourth estate by merely holding up a mirror ... then adding a punch line.

King of News Comedy

Stewart set up his hilarious dismantling of "mainstream" media with this intro:

Still, the circumstances surrounding her sad resignation raise some serious issues:

What's the line between opinion and opinion journalism?

When does America's unwavering defense of Israel begin to compromise our unwavering defense of free speech?

Does our media demonstrate a casual bias against the Arab world and the suffering of the Palestinians?

These are hard questions reporters must be asking themselves in the wake of Thomas' departure.

Are you journalists or are you rushing a sorority? Jon Stewart

Good questions from JS ~

12. The WH Correspondents are a bunch of cowards
It's like a club and Helen wasn't welcome because she asked inconvenient questions. I am ashamed of the WH also for 'condemning' Helen, while having nothing at al to say about Schumer's bigoted remarks. It makes the WH look so hypocritical.

But Helen has some powerful defenders and around the world she is becoming a hero, this country also.

Robert Parry, another great journalist, slammed the DC Press in this article:

Standing Up For Helen Thomas

punishment meted to those who question Israel. Rather than increasing public support for Israel this type of action decreases it amongst those who don't have an axe to grind. My 83 yr old mom who has never been either political or prejudiced and is on a limited pension now trundles quite some way to buy Palestinian Olive Oil as a show of support. If my mom sees through pro-Israeli propaganda, actions like this smear against Thomas ain't going to do Israel supporters one bit of good.

I don't know if you ever watch Xhristian fundy programs (I only get 5 channels so while surfing I'll often hit on one of them sermonizing) but anyone that does would have heard over the last several weeks lots of preaching about the utter importance of Israel to Christians. Hagee for example gave a thunderous sermon that was jaw dropping - in the course of about 10 minutes he repeatedly roared "Israel lives, Israel lives,Israel lives".

Israel must have come to the conclusion that fundies are the only gentiles they might truly be able to influence and so are paying Hagee nd his ilk big bucks to do promos.

19. I have watched fundie shows, mostly for entertainment when I
first discovered them. I never thought sane people would fall for the drivel and the so obvious money making racket it was. Then, my sister and some of my friends began talking to me about being a 'non-believer' etc. and 'not getting into heaven'. It was so sad, because all of them are such intelligent people. My sister has recovered but it shocked me that what I had thought of as amusing, even people I knew had been hooked by what was clearly insane, corrupt (Pat Robertson) manipulation.

It's interesting how the far right has aligned itself with Israel because when I first went online, I was on a Rightwing controlled board and the far righties at that time had no time for Israel. In fact I was arguing with them constantly about Bush abandoning the peace process. Their response then was 'what does Israel do for us, why should we care'? And then it all changed. I watched in awe as those same people became huge supporters of Israel's militarism etc.

Religion is fine, but when it becomes so irrational that people start believing Governments need to act according to their beliefs, it is very dangerous.

Our media has presented a one sided view of the ME for a long time now, mainly to get support for our illegal wars. But I was happy to see on all the boards where the subject of silencing a Journalist like Helen Thomas arose, a huge majority opposed the decision. I expected, considering the propaganda we get on the media, the exact opposite. I guess I should have more faith in people :-)

I hope Helen knows that veterans like you have not forgotten her support. She was feeling sad about how some of her friends in the press turned away from her.

But I have a feeling that YOUR support would mean more than anything to her ~ :-)

20. 88%, 92%.... sorta shows that
the MSM, where support for Helen is close to 0%, doesn't really reflect the people, eh?

Good old "fourth estate" --- really the "fourth branch" of the Oligarchs Inc. who own the other 3 branches.

23. Yes it is. But for me and I think for many others, it is more than
just about Helen. It is about censorship. As one person supporting re-instating Helen asked 'how much more of our right to express a political opinion, are we prepared to give up'? Censorship of any kind, especially of a journalist, is very scary and should never be tolerated by a free society.

And as is always the case, censorship is always selective. It is biased. To think that not one of the cowards in the so-called media had the guts to raise an objection. Their jobs and access are more important than their country. True, it would take courage.

Sorry, but not sure who 'JS' is?

Jon Stewart's defense of Helen was brilliant. I wonder if she knows about it? And his evisceration of the Press Corps was a master-piece. Glad you liked it, I hope it made Helen's former colleagues squirm :-)
