one thing I think is interesting
is how a state like Utah voted for FDR all four times, and Vermont voted against him all four times. If you would have told someone 65 years ago how they would vote today, you would be called a crackpot. Who knows what this country will be like in 70 years. Maybe Nebraska will be a rabidly democratic state, and California a solid republican state.

2. I'd bet you're wrong. But, I'm absolutely certain that I won't
exist to take my winnings.

4. Wild guess
Is that FDR was close to the non industrial populist West on specific issues when religion had little to do with coservative moral issues getting politicized. The old eastern state GOP still is befuddled and tradition bound long after that type of party has ceased to exist at all for their benefit but many of the bright and upcoming have moved West and South to add to the mystique of government as business- as their economies have decayed at the expense of the "new" South and West.

There will be some major changes due to climate change that may be kicked off in part due to the Gulf disaster destroying the health and habitat in advance of hurricane-ridden, super hot weather and coastal flooding. It will be more like Bengladesh than America for non rich Americans. Maybe Yellowstone will blow, the dust bowl return. Minus major geographical and geopolitical flux in actual populations and changing major issues, the perplexing minuet of two types of corporate parties gives the foundational benefit to fixed prejudices and clinging traditions.

The GOP digs in. The Dems dig out. In 70 years the global nightmares will swallow up the fatally modest political speculations. If you could be surprised by hacks and boobs like the GOP presidents actually getting the Oval Office like some corporate awarded door prize the real shockers of the real natural world will likely be unimaginable.

5. i'm not betting on anything
I just find it interesting when looking at political maps how just about anything is possible. Nixon won every single county in Georgia in 1972 and Carter won every single county in Georgia in 1976. Each state has voted for at least a democrat once and a republican once since 1964.

6. Ending up
making Texas and Florida gutted fiefdoms for the Bush era, basically turning the still unwitting populace into Nigerians. Things will be MORE unpredictable than ever in history when all the varied compost hits all the huge fans.

America as Texas vs. California: Who’s Moving Where Edition

The Enterprise Blog has featured an occasional series comparing Texas and California as a way to draw conclusions about America as a whole. Previous posts are here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Texas’s low-cost, liberty-loving atmosphere has become an attractive alternative to California’s oppressive public sector and dysfunctional policy environment. No amount of heart-melting vistas, celebrity sightings, or traipses through wine country can make up for what almost appears a strategic attempt by one of the nation’s largest states to drive businesses and productive people away.
