Hey Keith .... give up the book idea.
It holds the attention of few. I takes time from actual stories.

You look silly doing it, too.

2. I treat it like an extended commercial. Never pay attention.

4. Agreed & Rec'd
While I appreciate him following up on the legacy of reading Thurber to his Dad in his last days, it is overkill on Fridays.

7. I usually use that time to go make me a snack, take the trash out,
put the cloths in the dryer or some other chore.

10. I have grown to like it.
You're right, he looks silly. Just as any uncle or grandpa would look reading a bedtime story.

Oddly enough, the younger people who happen to be around listen quite carefully and with appreciation. I'm talking 30-somethings.

But I hope he moves to some other authors for variety.

and it's too much like dolts like Hannity and Orielly who can't seem to get through one interview without pitching a book or site

16. It's only on Fridays for a short part of the show
and a bit of culture never hurt anyone. I dig it but my guess is it won't go on but a couple months more - to honor his dad and what not.

18. Oh, really...
Well then, catch the last five to ten minutes of "Dog Whisperer", what don't cha, then?

The reason I like his reading that humor is probably because it's such an appropriate escape using the absurdities inside one's mind in tolerating the absurd people of he world... right in line and appropriate for Countdown, if you ask me. What's the difference between this and interviewing Richard Lewis, or Lewis Black, or making fun of some bizarre person in the last 5 minute segment with another comedian in the alternate nights? I'll tell you what - it's a little more "classic".

19. It just doesn't fit.

It might be OK for a Sunday afternoon travelogue but it just doesn't work with the other programming on Countdown.
