Viet Nam to get $15 for each gallon of Agent Orange dumped
Panel Calls for US-Funded $300M Cleanup of Agent Orange in Vietnam

A binational panel has recommended the US government spearhead a $300 million project to clean up Vietnamese areas contaminated by the toxic chemical defoliant Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. Agent Orange has been linked to cancer, diabetes and birth defects among millions of Vietnamese as well as American veterans. The US-Vietnam Dialogue Group says the ten-year plan should focus on twenty-eight areas around Vietnam. The US sprayed nearly 20 million gallons of Agent Orange on a quarter of the former South Vietnam and border areas of Cambodia and Laos between 1962 and 1971.

Obviously the people of Viet Nam were poorly represented on the Panel.

4. Were they not already compensated?
Ive heard an anecdotal report of a vet who handled it, and was subsequently declared disabled, who was quite taken care of by the government. But hey...how good could your life be after being that messed up?

Maybe it was just BS

5. It's case by case.
I survived a cancer that the VA conceded was likely caused by agent orange, but I was denied any benefits because I was in remission when I filed for them.

7. Hi Webster - I suggest you file again and take a look at the following document. VA is looking over
denied claims. You just might be able to get it reversed!

SENATOR PRESSES VA ON HIGH PERCENTAGE OF WRONGLY DENIED CLAIMS
Sen. Chuck Grassley: This "shows me that there are serious, systemic problems with the process for approving veterans' claims."

NOTE from Larry Scott, VA Watchdog dot Org ... This appears to be a reaction to this story:

CHIEF JUSTICE "STARTLED" BY GOVERNMENT ERRORS IN VETERANS' CASES -- In litigating with veterans, the government more often than not takes a position that is substantially unjustified.

9. Hey, thanks very much!
I gave it up long ago. They wore me down with paperwork. I figured fuck it! At least I'm still walking around.

I wasn't treated for my lymphoma at the VA, BTW. I got totally free treatment by letting them experiment on me at a very good cancer research center. I've been in remission for over 30 years.

I will check into it though. Can't hurt to try.

6. I was at Long Bihn as operation "ranch hand" dropped agent orange on us daily.

Three C-123s flew in a triangle formation dumping the stuff over the whole base. There wasn't a green living think there afterward. I didn't do anything about it when I came home. I don't know if there were any real effects on me. I am sterile though I can't prove any connection to agent orange.

8. $300M is an insult for what we did to them. 20 million gallons? n/t
