Poll question: where we need Lieberman's internet kill switch: on Wall Street
isn't it clear that the biggest threat to our national security that is moving around the internet is Wall Street's pump and dump bubble factory that has been used to break countries and demand they sell off their resources and utilities at fire sale prices, and do away crucial social programs like education, health care, and social security, so that the rich can profit from rather than pay for those?

If we had a true democracy, all the cyber-warriors in the Pentagon, CIA, and NSA would not be worried about leaks and threats TO Wall Street but threats FROM Wall Street to the middle and working class.

There is clearly precedent for this since the market was being monitored for terrorist manipulation before 9/11. We just need to acknowledge who the real terrorists are.

How hard would it be to detect nascent bubble-making, or economic blackmail of our allies, and nip it in the bud?

Of course that would require an admission by our government that the kind of economy the middle and working class want is very different from what the rich want.

The rich want a roller coaster so they can profit on stock prices shooting up, and then short them and profit on them going down.

The rest of us prefer steady growth even if it is slower and more modest, or the manufacture of goods and providing of services. Ironically, the rich can still get richer in an economy that benefits the working and middle class, just not as fast.

I think there would be some constituency for this use of military resources within the military itself since most of its members, even top officers, come from the working and middle class. In fact, the more a community is screwed by Wall Street, the more likely their kids are to join the military.

And just as troops were scrawling ''this one's for 9/11'' on the side of bombs dropped on Iraq & Afghanistan, kids might text to Goldman Sachs as they shut them down, "This one's for outsourcing dad's job at the auto plant!'' and ''This one's for foreclosing grandma's house, motherfucker!''
