I think I know the reason Wayward is being sent home
After his performance in front of Congress yesterday, the corporate suits finally realized that Tony Wayward doesn't actually DO anything in the company. He's totally ignorant of operations and procedures, of anything of import that happens at BP. So, send him home, he's worthless.

Plus he seemed to be under the influence of something. Some kind of tranquilizer or something.

5. How many ceos really know what is happening in their companies??
Most just sit at the top and collect the big bucks and let others run the company.

6. They are completely worthless, yet make the most money
It's bizarre. Most companies would be financially better off without a CEO.

You probably don't see the big picture. These people carry political connections with them, or they are put into those positions because of who their daddies are. It can defnitely help the business get government contracts or sub contracts from familiar companies.

CEO pay is a business expense. It comes out of the pockets of shareholders, who are not stupid. They don't want to throw money away. No matter how incompetent these people may be at managing a business, the expense may always be justified based on the social & political perks the CEO may bring. Perhaps it will allow them to skirt expensive regulations and avoid inspections, or perhaps they can get the government to loosen the grip on the coffers. They are not simple eye candy.

Just think...what company wouldn't have wanted the political connection George W Bush carried with him when he was in business? What crimes was he able to hide, simply by being there?

7. CEOs never seem to know what's going on in their companies.
Yet we're always told that they must be paid big bucks or their "talent" will be lost to another corporation.

11. Yes, and all the while that "talent" very often has resulted in big losses for the corporation!
With "talent" like that, who needs idiots working for you wasting money?

That's what I didn't get with the Wall Street/banking pay issue. Those companies were losing tons of money under the leadership of these people, what sane person would want to retain them? Let them go! Hire a person straight out of college, pay them $150,000 plus benefits and tell them to fix the mess.

Problem solved.

of the typical CEO salary.

12. I don't think so. He clammed up yesterday because he has
lawyers sitting by his side. BP will likely be be in court forever.

He's been a failure at the PR part of his job...we all hate him and BP, right? He
obviously needed to be replaced.
