Utah Firing Squad Execution Announced on Twitter
How sickening can you get?

Earlier today, convicted killer Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed by a Utah firing squad; the first execution of its kind in the United States in 14 years. Shortly before that, Attorney General Mark Shurtleff announced it with a couple of tweets.

One of them read: “I just gave the go ahead to Corrections Director to proceed with Gardner’s execution. May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims.” Earlier, he tweeted: “A solemn day. Barring a stay by Sup Ct, & with my final nod, Utah will use most extreme power & execute a killer. Mourn his victims. Justice.”

1. How about shiny new commemorative coins for the executioners?
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 01:57 PM by Jamastiene
They are making commemorative coins for the ones involved in the execution. Before, there were commemorative pins they gave to the executioners and others involved.

Now, they are making commemorative coins for all involved.

How about releasing pictures of the execution chamber after he was killed?

You asked if it could get more sickening.

2. why the f would 'god' grant this man mercy that Shurtleff wouldn't?
:nuke:

I hate this kind of hypocritical bullshit. Yeah, Gardner did WRONG- but doing wrong in response and somehow saying "oh 'god' please give him the mercy we WON'T" is so incredibly stupid.

this isn't justice- this is "just"us. It's only wrong when someone other than "us" does it.

5. Actually no, it was equally barbaric. Only what is said matters, not the medium.
I don't see an insinuation that saying the same things on "traditional" media would be any less sick.
