Hartmann: We MUST band together until we're out of this
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 12:35 PM by Doctor_J
In Brunch with Bernie, Sanders said we need to stick together to stave off election of another Bush (or worse) in 2012. A caller this hour bashed Sen Sanders for "threatening" us with that - caller compared it to Bush threatening us with another terror attack if PATRIOT act not passed.

Thom: What Bernie said was not a threat - it was an absolute certainty.

He's right folks. Right now our choices for 2011-2017 are

1. what we have, with incremental progress, and
2. Return to where we were in 2001-2009

KEEP THE FAITH AND VOTE DEM. Our future depends on it.

1. He's right - we CANNOT let the right wing wackos of today get back in power.

2. Of course he's right. . .
No mystery there. The truly baffling part of this is how anyone with half a brain could fail to this, and the urgency of it.

And what's this about? "I am not going to see the truth here because Bush lied to me!"

WTF?

???

5. It was a little more intricate than that
I rushed the OP to print. The caller said, "It seems like our politicians do a lot of threatening these days. Bush threatened us with another terror attack, and now Bernie is threatening us with right-wing takeover". Caller just feels like Bernie's tone was threatening and off-putting.

6. Sorry, but it isn't "intricate"
I've been hit by the same schtick here, followed by all kinds of epithets and nonsensical b.s.

We either elect Democrats or we're fucked big time. That's the simple fact and anyone who doesn't understand that, after living through the years 2000 through 2008 is delusional.

Nothing you can say--no amount of baby splitting--will convince me otherwise.

3. The question isn't IF, it's HOW.
Most wouldn't particularly disagree with the basic sentiment. The question becomes how best to do that. Specter or Sestak. Lincoln or Halter. What kind of finacial reform? Public option or exchanges?

I've often posted variants on 'stick together'.

Or we shall hang separately. ;)

7. Another Bu*h would lead to the death of the planet.
There would again be complete deregulation of business leading to an orgy of environmental disasters.

8. I almost feel like giving an unrec for your failure to include Bernie's additional
point about making sure that we as progressives continue to push Pres. O in that progressive direction, and continuing to remind him that our voices count.

13. true, bernie and thom do that every week.
but the caller and pfunk below, and millions of others, think that all we're getting from the Wh and DINOS are threats - no public option, no single payer, no end to the wars, no end to the torture, ............ regardless of how hard we push.

9. I think this is going to backfire-big time
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 12:56 PM by PFunk
But it's something that I was expecting since Obama and Co. has PO'd the dem base so badly that many will probably just sit home in '10 and '12. Many of them now see little-to-no difference between the two parties and dems using the "Vote dem or else" fear card to get those wayward dems seems like a repug tactic which will probably empathize this feeling. And nobody like to be forced into a box it will fail big time if they do go with this.

The best way of bringing PO'd progressives back into the fold is to give them a solid reason to come back. NOT use threats to do so.

15. Absolutely right...
New Rule: If you call yourself a "pragmatist" but don't see the wisdom of shoring up support from your base, you're not the "pragmatist", you're the "pony-wisher".

10. Well said. Solidarity now, or a GOP run country in the future.
And we know we cannot afford that.

12. The votes of the left are availiable, if they earn them.
"Not as bad" has worn very thin for progressives.

18. The DLC doesn't feel they need them. What we need it to take the Democratic Party back from the DLC
Who knows if that's even possible at this point.

14. We have this real problem:
Obama is certainly a major improvement over Dubya, as was Clinton over Reagan/poppy Bush and Carter over Nixon/Ford. As were Kennedy/Johnson over Eisenhower, and FDR over the run of GOP prezes before him. But Johnson and FDR were also accomplished reformers who stood far above the others (at least Johnson did before he betrayed us over Vietnam). Right now, we don't need better, we need stand-out.

17. And as also heard on Hartmann's show today....
The Alvin Greene situation in SC may mean that the electro-frauders are dropping the mask completely.

In previous elections, the Diebolding only happened in elections that were polling close, so that the final results being one or two points in the opposite direction can always be explained away as "margin of error".

But in South Carolina, it may have been a blatant massive vote switch on this particular brand of electro-fraud machine which most other states have banned. It may have been a test case, by the fraud perpetrators, just to pull an outright theft, and see if anyone would fight back. Vic Rawl passed the test, but the SC Democratic Party failed miserably.

Whether Greene will lose to DeMinted or whether Rawl would have lost to him is not the issue. The issue is that there is no way of legitimately knowing who actually voted for either candidate.

And those of you who believe Democrats (real or fake DLC/BlueBalled Cowards) in Congress will hold their seats this year or that Obama can hold his in 2012 simply because the Repuke candidates are teabagging jokes, may be in for one rude awakening if this electro-fraud is allowed to stand. :evilfrown:
