Let's look 30 . . . . . may 50 years into the future . . . . . . .
The majority white race in the US will assume its place among the large minorities. Black and Hispanic population growth will eclipse that of whites. One estimate says the white race will be a minority by 2042. Others show that only by counting Hispanics who identify as white will the white race maintain a majority status.

No matter. At some point, it seems virtually certain, the US white population will be less than 50% of the nation's people.

My interest in this post is to find out your views of how the country will adapt to this shift. For example, will whites, even as a minority, maintain their hold on power? Will racially based conflict decrease, or will it increase as the new white minority fights to maintain its formerly powerful and privileged place in society. Will social integration move forward at an accelerating pace or will the races self-segregate?

Those are just a few possibilities. How do you see it?

1. Let me put it succintly
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 09:16 AM by depakid
Combined with climate change and petroleum depletion, the US becomes Canada's Mexico.

6. And frankly Canada needs to build a big damn wall.
Can't have you Yankbacks coming into Canada for jobs and health care.

I also suspect that there may be some states that decide to suceed from the US and become Canadian territories with provisional applications to becoming full provinces.

11. Wishful thinking on their part
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 09:39 AM by peace frog
I can envision some states choosing to secede from the union, but become Canadian territories? Hell, Canada doesn't want us and who can blame them. We'll be just another horde of third-worlders trying to horn in on their largesse.

23. Yes, I think this is quite true! Also some Americans think other countries want them, that
is delusional thinking IMO.

30. Well, to be clear
some countries are delighted to take the yankee dollar, so they want us as long as we're spending money. When the wallet is empty, they show us the door.

2. Spanglish will be slang and common in southern states. More people looking
brown with curly darker hair.. with an occassion of having a blue or green eye color.. but for the most part remaining chocolate to light brown in color.

AND I welcome the changes.. AND no, once these self-entitled ass-clowns that are now in the Senate start losing and retiring, I believe that we will have more women and more colors representing the Senate where they slow everything up with insanity...

AND don't believe that corruption is just an old white guy thing... power is corrupting. Term limits would be nice.

5. Yep, I think similar. "AND don't believe that corruption is just an old white guy thing... power is
corrupting." I do think informal rationalization might be prevalent. And teabaggers aren't old white guys. Teabaggers come in all shapes, sizes, ages and race.

Not really. This is not a group with much diversity.

To be sure there exceptions, but mostly it is an older white, more male group.

21. Yes, I think you are correct, but I have seen some young teabaggers, although
predominately teabaggers older and white. I'm old and white, but as far away from a teabagger as one could be...:)

29. I agree that power corrupts, but I disagree where the power lies
I don't believe it lies with the senators and congress critters in most cases. The power lies in the hands of corporate contributors, lobbyists, and in the parties themselves (which are also backed by the lobbyists and corporate contributors). If you see it that way, term limits would only make it worse...at least incumbents don't have to sell their souls for money to get name recognition (sure, many do anyway). Any politician that stood up for anything would at best be gone--replaced by a corporately created candidate at the next term.

3. Light skin preference
It is already a recognized phenomenon that people of color tend to be drawn towards, and show preference for, lighter skinned members. Why is an interesting question, but it is true many places, not just the US. Divisions will become less clear, but you will see a certain "look" be considered preferable within the culture. That preference will demonstrate itself everywhere from the boardroom to the entertainment and fashion industries.

Taco Bell will be a forgotten non-memory. And Pocho will be our language and everyone will know what the California cities' names mean.

on a regular basis.

People who are used to being in power don't give it up willingly, let alone easily.

so much hatred in this country and division to feed them into violence.

9. Oh for Pete's sake
You know, the definition of white has changed over the years, used to be Italians, Jews and Greeks weren't really "white". As we increasingly get past ethnic barriers to love, most of us are going to be a hell of a lot happier...

And folks with money will still try to use ethnic and gender identity to their advantage to win elections based on fear.

So, to answer your question, Green is the only color that matters. Also, intermarriage is on the rise:

12. Depends on how much inter-racial relations the wealthy have in that range
If they start being less white then they'll change the SOP of the pukes and defang the radical groups. If not then we'll look more the same and we'll be ruled by the same old fucks getting more inbreed and clinging to the past with the passing of the days.

17. I already live in that world.
The wealthy "self-segregate." Everyone else is integrating at a rate that would astonish my grandfather, who was very upset when I married, in his words, "a Mexican girl."

I'm a white "minority" in my community. I grew up in a place where everyone was white, where driving or even walking to the mall while black or brown would assure an inquiry by the police. I was happy to leave. The community I grew up in wasn't much accepting of odd kids like me either. I got hammered by bullies in middle and high school. I quit high school early to escape.

I've been away from white America so long I get uncomfortable in places where everyone is white and speaking English. It's sort of creepy.

2042 isn't going to be about "race." It's going to be about wealthy powerful people holding onto what they have by crushing and dividing everyone else.
