Kudos to President Obama
for securing the $20 Billion escrow deal from BP.

This is a positive first step and frankly far more substantive than I expected.

Here's hoping that all goes as it is supposed to, and the people on the Gulf Coast get the immediate help they need.

2. Step by step. That's how problems as large as this are
dealt with. Sounds like President Obama is taking those steps. Plus a lot of steps already taken.

The Dutch skimmers have arrived, too. Sorry, Sarah.

If we paid close attention, we'd see these steps. Along with the things that still need to be done.

4. No doubt about that. And it's not surprising. Few of us are in
charge of anything like the size of this. I'm certainly not. I've seen operations of this size take shape and get implemented, but I've not been involved in any of the planning.

What I do know is that it takes a lot of time to get a huge operation underway. Not even the military can react instantly.

6. How Long Did It Take To Organize And Coordinate "Operation Iraqi Freedom"?
Edited on Wed Jun-16-10 02:33 PM by Beetwasher
Just think, that took months, and that was dealing with the military which was already trained for the mission.

This is a response to an unprecedented catastrophe that NO ONE was prepared for. People just don't get that, they want instant gratification. Or a dictator.

5. They expected Obama to don a superman cape and zap the hole closed
with his xray vision. It was really a breathtakingly stupid spectacle to behold.

I'm happy that he's taking the right steps to deal with this. But, realize, for some, nothing will be enough and what is done will be "wrong". Tis the world we live in.

12. A very good step provided nothing was given away in exchange
I support this but I'd prefer to see BP expropriated and the oil industry nationalized.

13. I'd prefer he launched a national green campaign
with real substance.

A complete shift away from the fossil fuel economy.

The new, world-leading green economy he spoke of so often in the campaign, but which has been utterly absent so far in terms of real action.

But the $20 Billion is a good thing, if, as you say, not too much was given away.
