Let's plan a Gulf Protest...

I'm tired of feeling like crap, sitting up here in the midwest. Writing
about my anger is cathartic, but it's not making a difference.

I think that the entire nation should show up in the Gulf. All of us.
Every political stripe should be down there--finally saying that a government
run by corporations is not ok--and we won't sit in our recliners and watch
"Idol" and "The Bachelor" while you decimate our democracy.

Can this be done? Can the entire country meet down there somewhere?

Can we discuss it?

Instead, why not volunteer to help clean things up. That would accomplish something.

But, that would mean doing hard work. I'm betting it doesn't happen. It'll be people who don't protest who will be scraping oil off the beach. Activism is not always equivalent to symbolism. Sometimes getting down and helping is a better choice.

5. I kind of had a different idea...

What if we all congregate along the Canadian border and tip the country up toward the north enough so that the oil goes under the sand and rocks and stuff...then we all fly back down south and jump up and down, lowering the shoreline, trapping the oil back under the rock where it belongs...

I dunno.

6. Another idea

I think everyone in the country should stop mowing lawns. It would save a huge amount of gas and serve as a visual reminder that many are suffering.

As far as going to the gulf to clean - Many many people are going to get sick - chronically. Many are going to die early as a result of the exposures to the toxins. No one is taking the proper precautions.
The toxins will do their own damage and in many people, trigger a genetic predisposition than will result in things like MS, Parkinson's, ALS and more.
Genetics loads the gun - environment pulls the trigger.
