The speech.. Hope meets Hype.. It's a tie
Everyone seems to be disappointed.

The media hyped the thing to the nth degree, and was expecting an HBO speech & Tony Soprano..

They got the Hallmark Channel & Roma Downey..

wishin' & hopin' & prayin'..

Apparently, even after 2 months, it's obvious that too many people still think there is a solution, and that like on tv, "everything's gonna be ok"..

2. The problem is that this one is a mile deep under the sea
and probably involves a giant fissure in the seabed itself:(

Blowouts on land or in relatively shallow water can be handled, but this is pushing the limits..

5. That's not "the problem"
That's the "symptom". The problem isn't the pusher, or the drug. The problem is the guy sticking the needle in his arm.

7. We agree on the big picture, but then we still have the pesky mile deep oil volcano
and the fact that it's killing the Gulf of Mexico...and the fact that people will be upset to see the carnage, but they still use petrochemicals.. we have few choices anymore..and although many would gladly drive less (or quit altogether) we have NO infrastructure to move people back & forth to their jobs.. We pissed away a half-century, wallowing in cheap oil, and it's payback time:(

6. It could possibly be beyond the limits of our capabilities to fix it
The oil companies haven't bothered to develop any oil spill or gush fixes beyond what they had in the 1960s when there were very little off shore oil rigs.

3. There are "solutions"
We didn't hear any last night, but there are long term solutions to our dependence upon fossil fuels. Apparently Obama doesn't know any of them, so he's waiting for someone to show up and tell him. He did say he's ready to listen. Of course the bajillion ideas already out there apparently haven't impressed him.

4. The truth isn't easily accepted
There are too many still in the denial stage. It just can't be as bad as it is. Hell no! That only happens in movies. In real life we get what we want instantly and we want this nightmare to go away so Obama better make it so or we won't vote for him again. That'll show him.
