Think about that. For every three thousand barrels of oil spilled per day, that's one entire average house filled from floor to ceiling with crude oil.
Take the "output-of-the-day" number that's being reported, lop off three zeros, then divide by three. The number you get is how many houses per day are being filled.
The most recent estimate is 35k to 60k.. that's between 12 and 21 houses per day.
That's all the houses on a small suburban block. All of them, filled with a small ocean of crude.
It's been 57 days... that is something on the order of 900 houses filled with oil.
Imagine how much water there is when you find a couple of inches of water in your basement. That's a lot of time with the shop-vac and squeegee and bucket.
