OK, Someone explain the SC Candidate filing process to me.
How did Alvin Green file ? Do they just pay a filing fee to run in SC? Do they not have signature requirements? And how is his nomination legal if he didn't file with the FEC?

1. I think all you need is ten grand...
...and a Republican sponsor.

2. I am not sure he was even required to file with FEC.

He claims he used his own funds to pay the filing fee, and to campaign.
He spend a very minimal amount on campaigning. So if he didn't get any donations, what is he going to file with the FEC?

3. This might help.
Here's a link that might help you.

http://www.fec.gov/ans/answers_candidate.shtml

"After registration, candidate's campaign committees must file quarterly reports to disclose all of their receipts and disbursements. Additional reports are required shortly before the candidate's primary election and before and after the general election".

Candidates filing with parties that nominate by convention and candidates filing by petition do not pay a state-mandated filing fee. The filing fee to run for the US Senate is $10,440.

To be nominated by petition, a candidate must file a nominating petition containing the valid signatures of at least 5% of the active, registered voters in the geographical area the office represents.

6. This is why we have a bunch of rich assholes who are completely out of touch with
real Americans running the show. Who has time to collect 5% of the populations signatures or has an extra $10,000.00 sitting around.. AND because we want to track the candidates donations and shine a light on their insiderness... we have made it harder for more regular types to even run.. How do you hire or maintain a staff to help you out with the various functions of running a campaign when, especially in the Senate, incumbancy is a lifetime achievement? Its nearly impossible for any primary candidate to gain any support at all. Look at the race in AK. Look at the race in Nevada with Reid. How many people think he's an ineffective tool? But where was a valid primary opponent? Now its a teaparty whackadoodle or Harry. Crazy shit getting people into a public representative role to be a "voice" of the people.

Some voice.. Shitty health care reform. Still in two wars. Still spending half our money on military while the "homeland" crumbles away. Stuck with Wallstreet and Big Corp running the show. AND a private company controlling the vote. What isn't wrong with ALL of this?

4. The filing fee is $10,400. I don't know what the requirements are
for reporting cotributions to the FEC though. There s also a andate that the filing fee must be made using your own funds. That money cannot be given to you by anyone else.
