Have we all stopped watching? I know that I personally did. It didn't seem to be a worthwhile expenditure of time to watch David Gregory let Republicans spin unchallenged by any facts. I also got tired of seeing the same faces with the same tired shilling all the time. Definitely overexposed to Dick and Liz Cheney although it must be molting season now. George Will? Cokie Roberts? Pulease! Used to watch Chris Mathews religiously on Hardball and the occasional Sunday Morning FOR YEARS. Stopped about six months ago and haven't missed it one bit.

Just got tired of the overexposure of the Republicans and the very poor consideration given to all Democrats, forget more liberal Democrats.

I was a very hardcore news junkie - local paper AND New York Times AND Washington Post on Sunday Morning - hard copies to browse over leisurely with coffee. No more.

So, is anyone watching? Even though I gave up, I'm surprised it seems as though everyone has. I kind of liked getting it second hand through DU if something noteworthy came up.

1. I noticed that too.
I haven't watched in a couple of years, at least. The Sunday shows became total propaganda long ago. I finally got rid of the TeeVee altogether.

I realized I was paying a lot of money for cable, and only watched a half dozen shows, most of which I can see online anyway.

I was paying Comcast for HBO for years, just to watch Bill Maher's show. Made no sense.

5. I also ditched my cable
I bought a converter box off my neighbor for $10 so I could see some shows on PBS. Anything else I want I can get on XM (Fareed Zakaria, Olbermann & Rachel sometimes) or online.

I don't miss it.

2. I for one haven't watched the Sunday AM shows in weeks. If anything important is said, I can usually
read about it here on DU and, as you said, not much of that lately.

3. Sabbaticals are refreshing. It' a good thing to put the talking heads
on indefinite hold and throw on some Lyle Lovett, or Emmylou Harris, or the Rach 3.

Our dog never liked Bob Schieffer that much to begin with. We're better company to the pooch when the Sunday talk programs aren't competing for our attention.

6. Probably because there's rarely anything worth talking about on any of them.
I used to watch them religiously (for lack of a better word, and since it IS Sunday morning). I could tolerate Tim Russert, though I was never under any illusion that he was on our side. Douche Gregory doesn't even bother with a pretense of being "neutral". He might as well be on FAUX.

Recently I read that MTP's ratings have tanked since Douche took over the show. Perhaps NBC should take the hint and replace him with someone more capable. Rachel Maddow immediately comes to mind, of course, but she probably wouldn't want to work 6 days a week, and (especially during this BP murder of the Gulf thing) she's needed right where she is with her own MSNBC show.

7. I've subbed Rachel Maddow instead.
At least you'll get someone challenging the talking points. On MTP et al., it just seems to be an opportunity for the shills to present Side A and Side B, and then it just lays there. And they all talk over one another and no one gets a chance to really make a point coherently. I'm sick of it.

8. The TV has shows on Sunday Morning?
I thought it was just test patterns. I swear I did turn on the tube recently one Sunday morning, but all I heard was noise.

9. Gave up the Sunday Morning Babble years ago.
TV and cable news, too. I'm better informed and less stressed. I highly recommend it.

10. I stopped watching during the last two years.
The people on these shows are 100% predictable. If there's a good interview with someone it will make headlines. For news analysis I listen to progressive radio.

11. I stopped watching just after the last election.
Quite honestly, there really wasn't anything new being said but it became a gaffe-fest of sorts between both parties. That, along with the very poor job done by most 'moderators' who continually pander to one side.

Quite frankly I'd rather drink coffee and watch the ducks in our backyard. ;)

12. I watched Washington Journal this am
during the time they had Norm Solomon on. He was excellent. Made the case for the progressive democrats to take back the party.

13. Thanks for the info @Norm Solomon
Like most of the other people responding to this thread, I don't watch the news on TV (I live in the mountains and get NO TV reception--Comcast and Direct TV were a nightmare to deal with and so I fired them!).

I do read DUer comments about what they've seen on TV.

14. No problem
yeah Norm fielded all the questions so well. He's a great spokesperson for everything I care about--a synthesizer. And he puts it in terms that most people can understand. Clear and to the point.
