Only one out of 23 speakers at DOJ/USDA event earns a living growing crops or raising livestock

By Lynda Waddington 3/4/10 12:01 AM
Farmers and consumers, who are not anticipated to play a major role in the Justice Department’s upcoming agriculture antitrust round table in Ankeny, are still intent on having their voice heard.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will be one of the speakers at the DOJ/USDA antitrust workshop March 12 in Ankeny. The U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Justice have jointly scheduled a series of workshops for dialogue on the issues and concerns facing agriculture. The first of those meetings is scheduled for March 12 in Ankeny, and will reportedly focus on competition in the seed industry as well as serve as an introduction to the entire series of meetings.

As Bill Bishop of The Daily Yonder notes, despite the DOJ’s calls for input from farmers and ranchers, only one out of more than 20 scheduled speakers at the Ankeny event is a person who makes his living on the land. There is a brief period at the end of the discussions that has been set aside for comments from those remaining in the audience.

1. My nutritionist told me about one of her clients who had 2
different patches of lettuce: one was Monsanto GM lettuce and the other regular. The rabbits destroyed his regular patch, but wouldn't touch the GM lettuce, so he was thinking about switching to all GM. She pointed out "if the rabbits won't eat the GM lettuce, that should tell you something. Like maybe you shouldn't, either."

2. Sometimes I just shake my head
at how people think. Or don't think I guess is the way to put it.

3. Scientists who are independent of Monsanto (And even some who aren't)

Now understand that the glyphosate in RoundUp interacts with the soil microflora and disturbs the "good bacteria" and allows the predators like Fusarium to grow.

So if it is GMO, it is probably gonna be Fusarium or other fungi-contaminated.

Such contamination can be deadly, and recently such a contamination in corn caused many birth defects in teh Brownsville Tx area.

in any case, Fusarium-conatminated grain gets significantly less on the market than grain that is free from conatmination.
