Human rights group: BP discouraging crews from using respirators
:wtf: bp is screwing up by the numbers. So they'd prefer negative publicity vs. protecting workers?

Human rights group: BP discouraging crews from using respirators

BP's logic seems to be that if the oil cleanup doesn't look dangerous then it must not be. The oil company has told workers not to wear respirators because it's bad for public relations, according to one human rights group.

RFK Center President Kerry Kennedy traveled to the Gulf Coast to talk to cleanup workers and found that BP was trying to repress the use of safety equipment.

"In all three states that I've visited, fishermen said when they went out to work on the cleanup, that if they tried to bring respirators they were told it was unnecessary equipment and would only spread hysteria," Kennedy told Fox News Friday.

"When I went out with eleven people, we had respirators on and within half an hour, all of our eyes were burning and our throats were closing and we all had headaches," she explained.

Kennedy was also concerned that BP was refusing to release information about the contents of the dispersant being used.

"They're basic human rights issues. The right to access of information. BP still will not say what the chemical makeup of the dispersants are so health care officials and victims can know why they're sick and what's going on with them," Kennedy said.

5. where's our government on this ..just where the fuck is our government on this shit??
Edited on Sat Jun-12-10 07:14 AM by flyarm
BP is only doing this ..because they are allowed to get away with it with our government's full approval!

Where the fuck is the EPA..oh yeah telling us all this toxic shit is safe!

We in the Tampa area for over a week got god awful air of toxic shit we had to breathe ..where was our fucking EPA when thousands of people from Tampa to Ft Meyers were calling the government and media demanding to know wtf we were breathing..it took 4 days to have the media tell us there was awful fucking air we were breathing..so just where the fuck is our government???????????

BP was given total control over our beaches..our air , our water..by this government..this government who's main purpose is to Protect the American people from harm..for 54 days our government gave total control of our air , our beaches, our media , our marshes, our wild life, our marine life..and our US Coast Guard...and information that was witheld from our nations top scientists..and our FAA...where the fuck is our government and where have they been?? Derelict..that is where..in hiding...covering asses...why was our Coast Guard made a partner with BP???? why???????????????? BP threatened our media and anyone trying to take pictures..and tell the truth with the Coast Guard at their side doing the dirty duty of threatening any media trying to tell the truth..why?? why is a Foreign corporation getting this kind of cover protection and cover by the Coast Guard?? Those orders have to come from the highest postions of our government..

I have gotten so many emails from people all over the state of Fla asking me..since when did BP own our beaches, our air , our water, our scientists etc etc etc..

Look to where the real problem lays..it is with this administration and our government.

I will say it again..BP is only doing what they have been allowed to do!

This is day 54 we are damn near 3 months ino this destruction and our government has given Carte Blanche to BP..a Foreign Corp..start looking into the money and who needs their asses covered...on both sides of the aisle! Do you honestly think any other nation would hsve turned over full control of a disaster not even half this size to a Foreign Corp ?????????? If you think so..I have alligator land for you in the Fla swamplands!

Wake the fuck up and do some damn homework.

This is a travesty that our people in this nation are being exposed to god knows what..because BP and your government have made sure you don't know! Nor those of us who have been exposed to this shit!

And start to hold these people accountable..like your government ..besides BP!! The responsibility lies with our government to protect the citizens of this nation..not BP!

6. They Can't Help It...They're Glued To The Bottom Line
The almighty dollar is so ingrained into the corporate culture, they'd rather save a few bucks today without thinking about the long term implications. It's how we got into this mess in the first place. There's not a long term braincell in that corporate.

7. our politicians are also glued to the god almighty dollar and they allowed BP full control
Edited on Sat Jun-12-10 07:18 AM by flyarm
of the worst eco system and ecological disaster this nation has ever faced!

Put the blame where it really lies ..with our federal government for allowing BP full control!

A foreign corporation should never have been given the full control it has been given by this administration and this congress!!

8. Oh Trust Me, I Have...
I've long said this disaster is the product of 30 years of "deregulation" that let the corporates corrupt the beltway...especially under the previous regime. It's a symbiotic relationship as the more corrupt the politicians became, the greedier the corporations became and so on. Our political system has become a cash machine...when a Congresscritter has to raise a minimum of $1 mil every two years to keep their job. Voters only matter in the days and weeks before an election, it's the money that matters the rest of the time.

BP isn't as much foreign as multinational...their money is spread around the world. As has been noted here, they have more employees in the US than in other countries, thus it's a trans-national and those too big to fails have no allegiance to any nation, only to the corporate entity. We have plenty of American corporations in the same situation, so if you rule against one, you rule against them all. Remember, "globalization" has happened and corporate interests now follow.
