Amy Klobuchar to headline Iowa’s Democratic convention

http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2010/0... /

Minnesota’s first women U.S. Senator will be the headline speaker at the Iowa Democratic Party’s 2010 State Convention.

Amy Klobuchar was elected in 2006. Before running for Senate, she was a county prosecutor for eight years. She sits on the committees for the Judiciary, Agriculture, Environment and Public Works, as well as Commerce.

This year’s State Convention will be held on Saturday, June 12 at Polk County Convention Complex. Some of the other speakers will include Sen. Tom Harkin and Gov. Chet Culver.

People may sign up to receive additional information about the convention on the Iowa Democratic Party’s Web site.

Apparently Blanche Lincoln was busy.

Dear God, I hope this isn't a sign that she's being taken out for a test drive for 2016. :puke: Everytime a politician heads to Iowa I get suspicious of their motive. I can only hope Klobuchar was invited because they couldn't get anyone who wasn't already near Iowa to come to the midwest this year.

1. Most moderate senator
At least that was how she was touted in the Strib. Why is moderation such a virtue among democrats and extremism so good among Republicans.

2. Klobuchar is to the right of "moderate"
- much closer to Blanche Lincoln than to Paul Wellstone or even Hubert Humphrey.

She also avoids taking any firm positions. Except, of course, for her courageous :sarcasm: stand against texting while driving.

Many of us are hoping she faces a progressive challenger in 2012. She had one in 2006, but the DSCC & the state party apparatus effectively shut him out. The state party acted in complete violation of it's own rules as this happened before there was an endorsed candidate at a point where the party is suppose to be neutral.

4. I know.
I was at the state convention that year. I voted No Endorsement twice. They shut down several others at the direction of the damnable national party jerks. The only people left standing at the state convention were perennials and unknowns. Of course it was the same convention that selected Mike Hatch over Becky Lourie so what should we expect.

And I wouldn't have ever called her moderate. She is an apolitical opportunist that does next to nothing when anything tough comes to the floor. Next to her, Diane Feinstein looks almost tolerable.

3. Amy Klobuchar/Harold Ford 2016
Now there's a ticket only the GOP could love.

5. Yup
Win-win.

If they win, the GOP basically gets to push its economic policies. Or, they are very easy to run against as such a ticket depresses party activism.
