"GOP Congressman on Gulf oil leak: 'not an environmental disaster'"
Edited on Thu Jun-10-10 10:54 PM by TomCADem
HuffPo Don't worry about the oil spilling into the Gulf, Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) says, because the worst spill in U.S. history is "not an environmental disaster," just nature taking its course.

"This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and again because it is a natural phenomenon," Young said after Congressional hearings last week. "Oil has seeped into this ocean for centuries, will continue to do it. During World War II there was over 10 million barrels of oil spilt from ships, and no natural catastrophe. ... We will lose some birds, we will lose some fixed sealife, but overall it will recover."

This is why we need to keep things in perspective. With Democrats, the question is whether we can do the job better. With Republicans, the question is whether they would do the job at all.

1. Does he feel that way when his Alaska constituents walk along the shoreline
and still find oil seeping up? Does he feel that way when fishermen find fish with tumors? Do his constituents feel that way when they see how their beautiful State was injured by a man made 'nature taking its course' incident?

I swear. Some people are just too stupid to be allowed to breathe.

3. The Republican major of Orange Beach, Alabama was on Rachel's show tonight
the first thing out out of his mouth, before she could even ask him a question, was to call Don Young an idiot.

7. He's Not Alone. Haley Barbour and Rush Limbaugh Are Saying The Same Thing
They will assert that Obama is responsible for this environmental disaster in one breath, but in the other breath they will oppose Obama's moratorium and efforts to increase the liability cap because oil is a natural substance. So, is mercury, but you do not want it in your Cheerios.

6. It's a natural phenomenon to drill 5000 below the sea then have the ship explode and sink

9. Can we revoke Alaska's statehood?
Let's bust them down to Puerto Rico's status.

There aren't enough people to deserve two Senators.

11. Yes.
The apportionment of senators is antiquated and gives disproportionate influence to sparsely populated states.

With current senate rules, one single senator can completely block legislation.

13. Well, then can Alaska keep Begich and kick out Murkowski?
Don Young is a representative, and he is the only for the entire state of Alaska. I'd give up a senator for more representatives.
