The online newspaper said the advertising strategy suggests that BP's penance is meant to be conveyed to lawmakers and national consumers in the Washington-to-New York belt, not just those closest to the crisis.

2. Instead of trying to PR and lie their way out of this, they should have just come

clean admitted they'd chinched on the project and sincerely jumped in to make it good. I think in the long run their company would have fared better than it's going to. "We were slimes, we sacrificed safety for profit, we're going to do what's right to make it up to you." I think it's far too late for that, though.
