ACORN was just a bunch of community organizers. BP is a big corporation that hands out lavish campaign donations to our elected representatives. All ACORN did was register people to vote, and there was no telling how they'd vote (some of them might not have voted at all, or worse, voted against incumbents!). When BP spreads the cash around, they know exactly how the recipients of their largesse will vote. De-funding ACORN was an easy call; de-fund BP? Are you out of your mind?!
