SEIU supporting 3d-party candidate against Dem incumbent in NC
http://www.wral.com/news/state/story/7758542/

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A union-backed movement has turned in what it believes are enough signatures for an independent candidate to run in a key North Carolina congressional district.

A spokesman for the group North Carolina Families First said it turned in more than 35,000 signatures to county election offices in the 8th District by Thursday's deadline. The final batch was turned in Thursday morning in Charlotte.

Elections officials will verify whether the group has collected signatures from nearly 17,000 registered voters so Wendell Fant can run against Democratic Rep. Larry Kissell in November.

North Carolina Families First earlier sought to become a recognized political party. The group is funded by state and national labor organizations.

6. And "sounds like" is about all we know about it at this point. Triangulation is a very
dynamic process.

15. The obvious difference being that progressives actually get themselves
informed about the issues and try to make decisions based on facts, even if they are sometimes thwarted by political realities.

Teabaggers simply get enraged over the latest talking point from the Beck/Palin/Rush contingent and fume about it - that it usually has no basis in any facts is totally irrelevant to them.

7. So, this is no longer DemocraticUnderground then?

I'm all for pulling for progressives, but based on some of the responses, it seems that some are actively cheering for Democrats to lose.

I thought that was against the rules.

19. Kissell is VERY much a DINO--voted agst health reform because it would "hurt Medicare"
I really wonder if he wants to get re-elected. He hasn't run his office like he does. I think he's known all along he can't hold this seat in a midterm.

22. Yes. We need to be pro-Greene and pro-Democrat in South Carolina
Too much anti-Greene talk. We have to be pro-Democrat.

They should do whatever they feel is right and not be beholden to the democratic party.

21. It appears the unions are backing this due to Kissel's vote *against* the Health Care bill.
And apparently Fant is a former staffer - fired from Kissel's office on ethics violations.
