Let's start it here...
Edited on Wed Jun-09-10 06:23 PM by Jeffersons Ghost
We're in the longest, most expensive war in US history. And there is not even a definition of victory, much less one in sight.

Irresponsible mega-corporations have totally destroyed the ecosystem, probably forever.

Big brother constantly listens and watches our every move.

The only things we export are handouts and jobs.

We're being literally thrown out into the streets, as our homes become the property of the bank.

With VERY FEW exceptions, our government representatives are systematically selling us out to big business.

Still, we sit snake-charmed in front of our computers and TVs.

What has to happen before we take definitive action?

Let's start organizing a nationwide protest right here and now.

We need to protest until we get term-limitations in the House of Representatives.

We need to set a ceiling on campaign contributions.

8. We need a national date. Memorial Day weekend or Labor Day weekend.
And about a year to plan to be effective.

9. Have you joined DFA or have a another suggestion?
From my research they are the best poised to become what we need.

They are not quite "there" yet, but with a little more push they will get there. And they have a good organization with some experience under their belt.

Please join and everyone else in this thread. You are right. We need to organize.

7. It starts by getting organized. We are too fragmented. Check out DFA
Edited on Wed Jun-09-10 06:28 PM by Go2Peace
I have a link elsewhere. Progressives need to organize under a single organization within the Democratic Party. Then change the party and move it back to principles.

13. we're only as fragmented as we allow ourselves to be...
I was involved with DFA years ago. If they haven't done it yet, they're not going to. DFA isn't immune to money from Big Business or pressure from Big Brother. Let's start a grass-roots with only the 2 objectives listed in the OP.

16. So where do you suggest then
I have seen calls like yours on this site since 2004. They don't happen because organizing in this way just doesn't work. We have no real connection.

I would love to see it catch on. But I just don't see it.

So what organization do you suggest? Do you have a better one?

watershed area, added 12,000 acres of wilderness road-less area, established the first marine reserve and marine protected area in the state of Oregon and won the NOAA national award for the best non government organization. Start local.

18. They did not organize on a forum, they organized in a church, face to face
Progressives have to find or create a unifying organization. That work has already begun. Now people just need to find the right one(s) and start working. We only have strength if we organize with people who know what they are doing.

That is why I have suggested DFA. If there are better organizations that appear to know what they are doing I would love to hear about it.

with only two non-partisan objectives. let's use what we have, which is DU for now. term-limitations and limited campaign contributions, that's it, nothing else on the agenda ever.

41. Well...the fundies didn't exactly start "in a church." More like, "in a stadium"
The origins of the Moral Majority can be traced to 1976 when Jerry Falwell embarked on a series of “I Love America” rallies across the country to raise awareness of social issues important to Falwell.<1> These rallies were an extension of Falwell’s decision to go against the traditional Baptist principle of separating religion and politics, a change of heart Falwell says he had when he perceived the decay of the nation’s morality.<2> Through hosting these rallies, Falwell was able to gauge national support for a formal organization and also raise his profile as a leader. Having already been a part of a well-established network of ministers and ministries, within a few years Falwell was favorably positioned to launch the Moral Majority.

"We need to protest until we get term-limitations in the House of Representatives."

Wasn't that one of Newt Gringich's ideas?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contract_with_America#The_Citizen_Legislature_Act

I'm not saying that makes it bad out-of-hand but I'm a bit leery.

Still, if it is good then maybe left and right can come together about something and make it happen.

Activists and others who care about positive change should focus on communities. It's still possible to change lifestyles to have positive impact on community scale.
