4. What caused it isn't really the top priority right now
Fixing it is.

Just like when the next nuclear plant here in the US has a disaster which is coming BTW. Oh yeah it will all be Bush, Obama, or whoever was the previous president's fault but that won't be very comforting to the towns that will be highly radioactive for the next 1000 years.

5. I agree that fixing it is top priority but #2 is fixing the watchdogs,
every one of them.

8. We, the voters are supposed to be the watchdogs
Edited on Wed Jun-09-10 05:37 PM by Crazy Dave
Americans don't realize that they have the power to stop things like this from happening but they either:

1. Listen to the politicians who tell them that they will do the watching for them.

2. Listen to the politicians who tell them it was the previous administration's fault.

3. Listen to talk radio that tells them no one needs to watch that industry will watch itself.

4. Expect everyone else to cut back their dependence on oil but not them.

5. All of the above.

15. Agencies like the MMS are created to be button men and scapegoats for...
Edited on Wed Jun-09-10 06:56 PM by Crazy Dave
...our politicians to hide behind and not get their hands dirty. All their chiefs and department heads are appointed and they're all either cronies or crooks.

And since American's rarely hold their politicians accountable for anything, so goes for the watchdog agencies they create and oversee.
