At least 39 people were killed and 73 wounded by an explosion at a wedding in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar on Wednesday, a senior official in the provincial capital told AFP.

The cause of the blast was unclear, especially as insurgent attacks in the province, the heartland of the Taliban, are normally aimed at military or police targets.



me: The Taliban are not the ones with a track record of blowing up weddings. I am guessing this is going to complicate "winning hearts and minds" in Kandahar.

He called his parents on Monday and my daughter said he sounded really bad. He told her that his unit was getting hit really hard with several casualties. He is on his second tour and dealing with severe PTSD. I guess this time the "PENTAGON" warriors aren't even going to deal with the imbed war journalists?
