We have a proverb which says 'what is fi yuh cyan un fi yuh'. Damn!!

<snip>
A man's plan to propose to his girlfriend on a mountain in the US ended in tragedy when the pair were struck by lightning, it was reported today.

Richard Butler and his girlfriend, Bethany Lott, both from Knoxville, Tennessee, were hit as they hiked in the North Carolina mountains. Lott was killed, while Butler suffered third degree burns.

Butler, 30, had driven Lott, his partner of a year, to Max Patch Bald, near Asheville, saying they would be going for a stroll.

He had planned to present her with an engagement ring at the top of the mountain.

When they reached the peak, lightning struck three times, with the third strike hitting the couple .

1. I can't fathom why someone would be on Max Patch in a thunderstorm.
It is the highest mountain around and is a bald. It is a wide open grassy top, bigger than a football field. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth and one of my favorites. I go there regularly. There aren't many places with a 360 degree view of mountain ridges that can be counted 7 or 8 before you lose sight.

It is a tragic story, they may have gotten caught in it unaware. Many people don't recognize the poser of nature or their vulnerability.

9. Sometimes thunderstorms can seem to come out of nowhere
They probably didn't know it was coming.

5. So sad
My wife and I talked about marriage for a while and then all of a sudden one day when she woke up she said this would be a good day for us to get married so we did. It'll be 20 years come july the 19th. In other words I didn't get to propose in the normal way :-)

10. I'd love to see a study on the cost of the wedding versus
the longevity of the marriage. When you start out without confusion and debt you have a better chance of building something meaningful.

but we simply went to Lavern's Wedding Chapel in Miami OK and got 'er done, no fuss no muss and very little money or time.

12. My husband hinted around about marriage on our first date.
Then he asked me to marry him on an almost continual
basis for about a year, it kind of became a joke between us.

One night, after a party, I asked him if he really wanted
to get married, he said of course he did, got out of bed
and dug a ring out of his jewelery box!

We were married 5 months later, and we are still married
today, 21 years this June!

When people ask him how he "proposed" he tells them,
"About 2 years of begging...."

Yet, I would love to know exactly what she saw. Was it of this world or another?
