Whitman, repub candidate for CA Governor, writes victory speech hours before polls close
San Francisco Chronicle Blog / June 8, 2010

We caught our first glimpse of Meg Whitman checking out the stage of her "victory" party. Her words, not ours.

Whitman was checking things out on stage and the first lines of her speech popped up on the telepromters in front. We caught it on video, and will post soon (warning: it will make you dizzy; we were kind of giddy).

Anyway, here's the text:

"Thank you so much ... What a great night! This victory is yours! I just received a very gracious phone call from Steve Poizner conceding the race."

Ummmm....

1. It'd rock if Poizner pulls an upset
so the party and her $80m has gone to a waste.

2. Arrogant
It would be so funny if Poizner ended up edging her out.

3. Actually, that's not that uncommon.
A candidate will have a fair amount of "down time" on Election Day(especially in states where campaigning is not allowed on that day), and will often write(or have their staffers write)both a victory AND a concession speech, just in case.

It could be overconfidence, but it might also just be boredom and anxiety. Plus, in a victory speech on primary night, you don't want to sound like you're "winging it", since you still have another election in the fall to try to win.

4. I know she IS arrogant, but all candidates write both an
acceptance speech & a concession speech at the same time.

5. At least if she wins
she will piss away even more money in CA, and I would imagine that the state's media outlets could use the bucks right now.

The "Buy It Now" candidate might just break the record for the most money spent on a losing statewide race.
