In seven letters, there is a poignant description of loss.

2. Thanks Are_grits_groceries.
I have to go to my nephew's funeral today.

He died without health care.

He was 28.

I watched him grow up . . .

I will keep this word you have given me in my mind.

4. Thanks for your thoughts.
He was a classic case of the disposable amongst "us": back injury as a day-laborer, followed by un-employment and then addiction to pain-killers.

Struggling to stay positive . . . .

5. I think that's the title of a Cesaria Evora song, too
Saudade is often translated as "the blues" or "longing". It's a key theme in Fado music.

17. SOW-DODGE-ay. Less D in the north. South Brazil: a little more D.
Sow like the pig only with a French nasal sound that makes an N sound. To really get it right, try putting the mouth and tongue in position as though pronouncing the word song as you say sow.

Dodge like the car
ay as in Day, but short on length not short on the sound of A.

18. When you're feeling saudade, it's best to listen to Chega de saudade (No more blues).
The bossa nova makes things better.
