Irreparable harm and the right wing disconnect
Right wingers are blathering all day, every day, about how Obama's not doing this, or not doing that, or is slow to do something else. There is no slack. Nothing anyone "does" now about the oil catastrophe can change what's happened or is going to happen for months/years to come, but the right wingers continue to pound away. They still cling to the belief that everything DONE, can somehow be UN-done, if only one works hard enough, or shows just the perfect amount of "care & concern", sprinkled with a soupçon of righteous anger.

Now we have an elderly woman who spouted off and said politically incorrect things, and apparently has now ended her long career in disgrace because no amount of apologizing could undo what a few moments of "speaking her mind" escaped into the light of day, and into print.

Her words, while hurtful to many, and ill-advised by almost everyone, did not foul a coastline, kill millions of innocent wild critters, potentially kill the whole gulf, bankrupt thousands of small businesses, or make thousands of people susceptible to "mysterious" cancers in the coming years...but her sin was so great that she had to fall on her sword, and accept her fate.

BP, on the other hand, will be "forgiven" by these same people because their "sin" is against nature and will be seen as an "accident", and if enough money is promised for reparations (whether paid or not), they will go back to being a profitable company (see Exxon v Prince William Sound), and be a treasured addition to portfolios everywhere...and life will go on.. (except for the gulf coast, where many living things will stay dead or continue to die for a very long time)
