We may laugh at the Tea Baggers, but...
By next year a few of them will be in office. Rand Paul will probably be a Senator and there is a good chance he won't be alone. There will also be a few of them in the House.
It won't be funny when they use their positions to block any descent legislation.
And remember, once in power the MSM will treat them with complete deference and respect. No matter how many racist, ugly, fascist things they say.

7. Nonsense...
Paul is a kook for sure, but he hasn't "already lost". There is still a very good chance he could win. This is Kentucky we are talking about.

2. I'm not laughing.
I despise them, however, and if people are stupid enough to vote for them, the country will be in even worse condition in two years.

It's going to take some real, left-wing revolutionary type education to fix it.....or a long and pitiful depression.

3. It's not going to be a happy time for them if they don't have a majority in their respective House
Any legislation they want to introduce has to be approved by the other side. And their place on committees will be woefully low on the totem pole.

I guess they could start a caucus and together grind their teeth for grins. They better get used to hearing, "Sit down and shut up".

4. One Senator can do a lot of damage
Look at the holds a few of them like Bunning of KY have done.

10. True but I'm not going to lose sleep over them
What's that sentiment from the film Night of the Iguana? ....

We all have just so much and no more in our emotional bank account... and mine is overdrawn.

5. Laughing here is fine..
...this can be a place to joke around and unwind, but no political opponent should be taken lightly. Politics is war, and underestimating ones enemy is folly.

I admire the tea party people that go out and try to make a difference. However misguided they are, these people are getting involved. I even admire the various religious groups that wander around trying to convert people. While their preaching falls on deaf ears to me, I respect their doing the tough work of knocking on doors, trying to talk to people who may hate them, etc. It is not easy to put ones self out there and risk ridicule and insult to try to make change in society.

In general, I have a great regard for people that get involved. As I said to someone else, when activists come to my door I am always polite even if I am not interested or don't agree with them. If they are supporting Democratic/progressive causes I always try to take it one step further and offer them a place to sit and rest, refreshments, etc.

8. They might wind up being a bigger problem for the regular republicans.
I have a hard time imagining them all getting along all that well for very long.

14. I wouldn't rule Jack Conway out of that Senate race in Kentucky at all.
Paul's launch has been clumsy and the polling indicates a respectable differential.

Too early to call, with Conway doing pretty well in a real red state.

The Baggers are loud and angry but they aren't offering a thoughtful alternative to pissed-off Pukes. They'll win a primary here and there but I don't think they're focused enough -- or adult enough -- to become a major influence in the fall elections.

And once they do arrive in DC they have to play rookie catch-up with the veteran pols.
