Major oilwell blowout just southwest of Fort Worth Texas
Two weeks ago, my son was promoted to lead driller on a rig in that area.

2. Now CNN is calling it a natural gas line explosion.
Fox (website) still calling it a rig explosion.

6. Wait. You've heard from your son? You know where he is?
Or did you post this because you don't know what to do with yourself until you do hear? In which case, accept my prayers for the safety of your son and all others in the area.

Have you heard?

8. I have a son in that area as well

He is a mechanic who should be nowhere near an oilwell. Prayers for your son's safety.

9. Ratigan just said it is a gas line and more explosions are happening/happened
down the line. They also said 3 are missing, on beyond the 6 who were injured.

Strong thoughts and prayers for both your sons.

18. Thank you for your concern
It turns out that he took his family out of town to the Smoky Mountains for a family vacation this week. He's having a good time the way it sounds from the grandson. I am also very glad that the O.P's son is all right.

10. I can breathe again.
It's definitely a gas line rupture. Close-up images on CNN are definitive. Son won't be available on the phone for another half-hour or so, but no worries at this point.

13. ABC Local Affliate - Natural Gas Collection Point blew at 2:40 (CDT)...
Edited on Mon Jun-07-10 04:02 PM by ccinamon
3 people have died, half a dozen have been taken to local hospitals....

36 inch diameter pipe...flames several hundred feet high...grass fires are minimal at the moment due to a light rain earlier in the afternoon

there is one road in to the area and one road out....near Granbury in Hood county...still rumbling

video of the fire shows it running a length of the pipe, not just a hole

edit....looks like the pipe split lengthwise and where a good share of the flames are coming from

15. Finally got through to my son.
First thing he wanted to know was how I'd heard so soon. I told him it's all over the news. Fire and stuff.

"What!"

He'd spent all day working the bit unstuck and thought the grapevine was working overtime. Then he had a crew coming today to cleanup driftwood that had collected in the creek beside his house and thought they'd set his place on fire. When I finally got him calmed down, I told him he should be able to see it. It's raining straight down where he is.

Condolences to those not so lucky.
