the mainstream as if it was never dismissed as conspiracy theorist wet dreams.

I was being sarcastic, TSS. Jeez, don't lose me now after all these years.

10. I still have some sarcasm left in this old body
:)

All I see is a meeting of wealthy people, kind of like one might find elsewhere on other issues. Covering the news should not be seen as a conspiracy theory - especially when I only posted a guest list....

19. Yes. I'm certain the press could stand outside and report on nothing.
Now, mind you, I do have problems with things like the Bilderberg. I think it's terribly undemocratic. I just reject the idea that it's all a grand conspiracy theory. It's simply a chance for world leaders to get together and hash out deals without having to kowtow to public opinion. That, in and of itself, is enough for me to be repulsed by the idea. But it's a far cry from that to institutions like the Bilderberg and the Trilateral being at the center of some ridiculous New World Order conspiracy.

meeting? At the time of the "gathering', they are not in power, so what do they have to offer?

51. Ridiculous. But a great example of how these conspiracy theories start, so let me run with it.
Bill Clinton attended in 1991 -- at the time, he was head of the DLC, a rising star in the Democratic Party, and already considering a run for president. He was not, as conspiracy theorists maintain, some little-known, backwoods governor who rose to power only after the meeting. Instead, he was brought in as a representative -- and the nominal leader -- of the new New Democrat movement.

That he then became president a year later is, of course, a result of the primary process, particularly the momentum gained after New Hampshire.

But because he went to the Bilderberg in 1991 and became president in 1992, a conspiracy theory arose that he was somehow "vetted" by the Bilderberg Group. This then became conflated to the conspiracy theory that ALL American presidents are vetted by the group -- an absurd hypothesis as the group has been around since 1954, and would thus have to be equally supportive of, say, Reagan and Bush as well as Carter and Obama.

There are, of course, several other examples of people attending Bilderberg and then becoming prime ministers, presidents or other world leaders. Tony Blair is a prime example, as is Romano Prodi, who attended in 1999 and became president of the European Union that same year. But in every one of the few examples the conspiracy theorists can name, the person in question was a rising star in his nation's politics, so his invitation to the Bilderberg can hardly be considered surprising. (I use the masculine pronoun here because, as far as I am aware, all of the examples cited by conspiracy theorists are male.)

But rather than see this for what it is -- getting up-and-coming world leaders together to network with global capitalists behind closed doors (which, again, is bad enough as it is) -- conspiracy theorists have to go one step further and propose that this group somehow clandestinely runs the world, up to and including somehow fixing every major election of every major power on the planet so that their people get in office.

That worked out well for Stephens and Poppy Bush when BCCI report was released in Dec 1992.

and DOJ.

You think Bush1 was going to spend his last month in office to look for an accounting of the BCCI report's 20 issues that required further scrutiny?

Get real. Understand the date for what it REALLY means and not for what you WISH it means. It means it was delivered to the outgoing and incoming administrations.....or....keep pretending you don't understand.

Clinton deepsixed that report and ALL its outstanding matters to the benefit of GHWBush, Jackson Stephens, Dubai and Saudi royals, and various terrorist funding financiers, armsdealers and drugrunners (BFEE for short).

The problem with this gathering is they seem to be making global policy decisions away from the affected populations. They also include high profile members of the media like "USA Graham, Donald E. Chairman and CEO, The Washington Post Company" and of the government "USA Hormats, Robert D. Under Secretary for Economic, Energy and Agricultural Affairs".

25. I don't want to get into a long, behind-the-scenes look at how moderating DU works, but...
someone alerts.

That alert is then shared among all the mods.

They decide, on a consensus basis, whether something needs to be moved, deleted because it breaks DU's rules or what have you.

I doubt this particular thread will head to the Dungeon, unless it starts getting kooky.

Thanks for posting this list.

You'll be lambasted and told it doesn't exist, and asked if you would like cheese with your Bilderburger, but Thank You for posting it anyway.

Chance that the majority of Americans will wake up, stop Keeping Up With The Kardashians long enough to figure out what it means: 0%

61. Yes. Bill Gates said he was in Spain to make a charity Speech.....
But instead he slid over to the Bilde-Booger meeting and gave the key note address.....

 That's a good one... Bill Gates and "Charity" used in the same sentence...
