Disturbing Pelosi chatter
Hopefully someone here can tell me I am wrong. My dad is a staunch liberal Democrat and on our way to the DC rally in the 27th began bitching about Pelosi. I asked him why he was bitching about her and he said that one of his union stewarts told him that her and her husband own various vineyards in California and that they won't allow their workers to unionize! I was apalled and hope it is untrue. Does Pelosi or her Husband own any businesses and if so, have they stopped them from unionizing?? I was under the impression they only had stocks and investments.

1. If I remember correctly
They pay better than union wages and have better than average benefits.
Their employees don't want a union.

2. No
she hasn't stopped them from unionizing. They choose not to because she pays better than union wages.

4. Here ya go:
RW spin at its best. The Pelosi do own a small vineyard (less than ten acres) in Napa and it's non-union but it pays competitive wages.
A link to a local SF news story on same:

5. Not Union busters.
The way I heard it was that the workers at the vineyard and restaurant have not tried to Unionize.
No one, especially the Pelosis, has stopped them.
Your Dad's shop steward is just repeating Repuke talking points.

6. Not only that, it would be ILLEGAL for her to try to unionize.
According to your article. Thanks.

"Calderon manages one of three camps subsidized by Napa growers. For $11 dollars a day, workers get a clean place to live and three meals a day, access to doctors and dental care. But all of that aside, if Nancy Pelosi wanted to have union workers she could not ask the union for a contract. It's illegal and has been since 1975.

A spokesman for the United Farm Workers Union explains.

Marc Grossman, United Farm Workers Union: "It is patently illegal for any grower to even discuss a union contract, which is the only way you can supply union workers, without the workers first having voted in a state conducted secret ballot election."

8. Plus, in California, anyway, only the workers can organize. Management...
...and owners cannot initiate that process.
