Just want to remind folks , Sir Paul Mccartney is an "entertainer".
He is a musician, and a singer songwriter and a famous talented one.He is a legend but he isn't either a "hero" or a "villain". He isn't a "statesman".

As an "entertainer," who was being honored for his work as a composer, he made a joke about a former President. The joke was one that many entertainers have made over the years. See: Leno, Jay, Letterman, David, O'Brien, Conan

It is really irritating to see both the Left and the Right getting as much political mileage out of a
joke" as possible. Politicians on both sides as well as supporters have lined up either heaping praise on McCartney for his remark or damning him only because they want to be aligned with his celebrity.

Both sides look ridiculous, and those on the left look even more so because they are allowing themselves to be drawn into a stupid and silly distraction.

Much as I love McCartney, this just isn't that important folks!

1. Good point.
I think he is so beloved that everyone wants him to be on their side.

2. It was a very tame and gentle humorous remark
The feigned outrage from the B*sh apologists is hysterical--in both senses. Next, they'll be burning his records, tapes and CD's, LOL.

Leftists are used to jumping in to counter wingnut BS, but perhaps in this case Sir Paul doesn't need defending. As a famous countryman of his once wrote, it's "Much Ado About Nothing."

5. My RW dad was actually trying to email him to tell him about all the books W
reads...he gave up since he couldn't find an email on the fan sites for "complaints" I guess.

My husband and I got a good chuckle out of it. I told him I was sure Sir Paul would be crushed...couldn't help
being a bit snarky. I pointed out that all former presidents are the butt of jokes so BFD. He seems to think only Repubs get wronged by the media. Yeah, right. Keep watching Fox, you might be able to stay in your alternate reality a little longer...

Sigh.

7. LOL. He's referring to some shit that was reported about how Bush supposedly
challenged someone (was it Rove, maybe?) to read so many books one summer...shit I can't remember the details.

Of course, I've always thought that was bullshit, given how he seems so out of touch with reality. Plus you'd think if he was well read he could speak coherently....

But then, my Dad thinks he knows everything. Always has, always will. Typical white good ole boy Southern Repub. I don't usually bother arguing with him. It's like talking to the wall.

8. I didn't think anything of his comment until the Orange Boner demanded an apology.
The republicants never miss an opportunity to look stupid.

9. You're right, it's not important. However...
...it is pretty damn entertaining. The Left isn't trying to get "political mileage" out of this. We're too busy laughing our asses off at Boehner and all of the other petty crybabies who have their panties in a huge wad over Sir Paul's joke.

12. Agreement, Go Cubs Go! Wer'e supposed to shrug off their phoney "outrage?"
Maybe Bush should get reading on those torture sections in the Geneva Conventions.

Poor Georgey Porgey, dissed by a Beatle! Ha!

10. To be fair, entertainers often jump into the "statesmanship" bandwagon when it's convenient.
So it's a fuzzy line.

But I'm sure Paul could care less if Tea Partiers stop buying "Beatles: Rock Band" for a few months.

11. hero isn't an occupation it is a quality of your character evidenced by deeds
one can be both an entertainer and a hero, a statesman and a villain.

I am not saying that McCarthy rose to the level of hero for taking the opportunity to speak some truth in a set and setting that could not be ignored, but certainly Bush sank the level of statesman-villain again just recently for opining blithely on how good it was to order others to torture on his behalf.
