“Doctor” Newt Gingrich warns of coming Alzheimer’s epidemic
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/health/u-s-must-brace-for-alzheimers-epidemic-gingrich-728341.html

Newt issued his warning at an Alzheimer’s convention in Palm Beach County yesterday. But in fighting the epidemic, he cautioned against returning to a welfare system like the one he killed when he was Speaker of the House.

“About two-thirds of the people we got off welfare either went to work or went to school. We came to conclude that giving people money for doing nothing was bad.”

Is he saying that helping people who care for those with Alzheimers is a bad thing? Should those shiftless people get a job at WalMart when they’re not busy caring for a loved one?

He of course offers some Newt-like solutions, but does anyone still take this man seriously? I wonder how long it will be before he shows up on Fox News blaming Alzheimers on Obama and the left-wing socialist Democrats.

It seems that two things that never go away are roaches and Newt Gingrich.

2. What the fuck?
As someone who lost the most interesting member of his family to that awful disease, I'd like to tell Newt to go fuck himself with a rusty sewer pipe.

4. Alzheimer’s convention in Palm Beach County
Just the right place! The 'epidemic' has moved to Palm Beach County.

5. Didn't he also say something like "What was so bad about orphanages?"
He's a crazy piece of work. I saw him once in Italy, walking down the street and clearly peeved that no one was noticing or recognizing him. I gave him a dirty look. :)

6. "giving people something for doing nothing"...
I recall Noam Chomsky commenting that Gingrich's district was at one time the largest recipient of U.S. government subsidized money for some defense contractor in his area.

But Newt has always been on this kick about speaking against "welfare" recipients. Amazing the hypocrisy.

8. Well, it seems there's only one thing left to do then.
Line up all the Alzheimer patients up against a wall and shoot them. At least with their state of mind, they'll never know what hit them.:sarcasm:

And he suggested that Alzheimer's caregiving be considered
a job, one that would accrue unemployment benefit credits,
because so many family members are forced to quit their jobs
to care for a loved one with Alzheimer's.

12. It's a suggestion that he knows wouldn't get
past senate Republicans in a million years. That's the kind of thing I was referring to in the OP as a Newt-like suggestion.

13. Takes a person with the disease to know about it, SO
guess he is an expert. Sorta kinda figures out why he acts the way he does.
