Owner of historic house seeks demolition permit:
Village of East Davenport residents again are fretting over the fate of a historic home on Jersey Ridge Road, a year after aldermen labeled it a local landmark and denied owner John Wisor a demolition permit.
Wisor attempted Friday to get the permit from the Davenport building department, citing a collapsed foundation on the south side of the Peter C. Bruchmann house at 1125 Jersey Ridge Road that he said was caused by a contractor accident.
Former tenants of the house, however, said Wisor discussed demolition of the house with them in recent weeks and a neighbor said he witnessed a piece of construction equipment “slamming” into the back of the 111-year-old home Thursday afternoon.“I heard a piece of machinery coming up the alley” early Thursday afternoon, said Daniel Ellis, whose second-floor apartment at 2322 E. 11th St. looks directly down on the back of the house. “I looked out and saw a Bobcat and some guys standing in the yard, and they started just slamming the Bobcat into the side of the house several times. It was very loud; you couldn’t miss it.”
