Still going to take some heavy convincing to get me to become pro-nuclear
I have been thinking about this a lot. And nuclear is being advertised real heavily as being safe recently. And it is. Until its not. Just like deep water drilling. It was considered pretty much completely safe. Until it wasn't.

See the problem?

I was thinking maybe all the nuclear reactors should be out in one state so if we had an accident most of it would be contained in one place. And I bet we could propagandize the states enough we would have states fighting over who gets all the nuclear reactors and the jobs and royalties that would come with it for their state. But that won't work either. If we ever did have a bad accident at one of the reactors we couldn't get to any of the others. They have to be spread out.

Got to be a newer and better way?

Don

1. Glow, baby, glow!
Think how much money you'll save on electricity when you turn the lights off and there is still enough ambient energy to read by.

2. My better way
Put the reactors underground. Like a thousand feet underground where they can be abandoned in place when they are no longer useful. If you know anything about the Chernobyl accident, you know that if it happened deep underground, there would have been no escape of radioactive material.

This idea came to me when I was at the Hanford reservation, looking at a cut up submarine in a pit. It's just combining mining technology with reactor technology -- build it in an abandoned salt, potash, or coal mine and use a very long extension cord.

3. And you really think that would not have an effect on this planet?
Get real. Nukes are poison. Period. And we CAN'T contain it. Period.

4. There is a better way. It's called solar power.
If we had invested as many millions and millions and millions of dollars in solar and wind as we have in these poisonous energies, our world would be clean and we'd be doing great. Instead, we poured millions and millions and millions of dollars into nuclear, oil, and coal. And the human race is headed for extinction.

6. Offshore drilling isn't safe. In last 50 years there have been hundreds of spills.
Equating the two is a logical fallacy.
