1. The sooner we kill the Gulf, the sooner we can drill for oil without
all those expensive safety precautions the "environmentalists" are calling for. That means low, low prices for everyone!

9. Yep
Eliminating the competition has always been a very good way to get ahead.

Now that the Gulf is dead, what reason is there not to drill off Florida?

And think of the jobs created!!

2. I just looked at the cams this morning. Total fucking disaster.
The flow is huge. Bigger than ever. Wouldn't know it by reading the news.

4. They made it worse when they cut the pipe.
It will probably be a few days before they admit it, though.

6. it does look like that - but it COULD also mean they are slowly closing the vents
the side of the cap has vents, which were open at the start. That's necessary so the back pressure of the cap doesn't put too much pressure on the BOP.
Of course, you don't capture much like that.
The idea is to then slowly close those vents, capturing more, without risking BOP failure. A balancing act...

When the vents are open, you get a lot of flow and from a "broad" area. When you're closing them, for some time you will have extra oil & gas coming out at the bottom.

Just relaying what I read - I wouldn't be surprised if the leak is much bigger than the (lower bound!) 12-19k bopd estimate.

7. According to some posters on The Oil Drum,
it appears that they may be changing to a different cap to try and get a better fit.
