Lou Dobbs is now going after legal immigrants. I thought his problem was with illegals?

Tonight's program featured a story about chain migration, and included outrageously bullshit numbers that every single person who legally immigrates to the USA could bring 200 odd people along with them.

Oh give me a fucking break already! That's just such fear-mongering bullshit!

I don't think this man gives a damn about anything else than brown people, I really have to start wondering if Lou doesn't have a set of white sheets hidden somewhere, immigration seems to be the only thing he ever talks about. Immigrants aren't the only problem in America, but watching this dumbshit's program, you'd have to guess that.

1. Well, clearly he doesn't have a problem with all brown people...
just look at Mrs. Dobbs.

But, yeah, I think his hammering on this issue crossed the border from exploratory, investigative journalism to Deeply Silly a long time ago.

14. You can still be racist even though married to another race.
I know my father was. He made an exception for my Latina mother and me, but as a whole he considered other Latinos to be inferior to Americans. Fortunately his racism was only intellectual. In no way would he have approved of throwing people, who only want to work, into detention facilities and the many other "solutions" being proposed today for the immigrants.

18. And His Wife Matters Because???
Jebbie Bush's wife is Hispanic, too. Yes, this went deep silly when Lou started citing talking points from the Minutemen and other white supremist groups. And I've yet heard him discuss illegals from other countries (such as the thousands of Poles, Russians, Chinese and others who have also slipped into the "underground" economy)...as well as any serious scrutiny about those who hire the illegals or the real economic conditions that force these people to risk life and limb for the privilidge of cleaning out Lou's pool.

24. Some of his guests are actually
members of white supremacist organizations. And he once did a show bemoaning the lack of "European" (meaning - white) immigrants to the US. Dobbs would probably be OK w/some illegal Polish immigrants; it's the brown-skinned immigrants that he can't stand. It's racism, pure & simple.

27. But There Are Those Here Who Still Love The Guy
I know of illegal Poles...I worked in a business in the early 90s when the first wave of post-wall Poles came flooding into Chicago...almost all on green cards and 6 month visas. At one point I would imagine that of the 50 people who worked at this place, 48 of them were illegals. Nice people, educated people, hard working, but illegal nonetheless. One was the receptionist...who suddenly vanished one day for several months...we found out he had moved to Detroit to stay one step ahead of INS. Recently, there was a local newspaper story of a family of Russians who had been busted for running a "mail order bride" service from their home...bringing in Russian women supposedly with marriage proposals who then vanish into the underground economy (cleaning ladies) once they get here.

Again, I ask anyone to contemplate what it takes to leave one's home with nothing but hope...risking one's life in going to a country you know is full of people who hate you. Doobies and others should get off their high horses and stop thinking that this country is the do-all, end-all place to be. This is an economic tragedy that borders on white slavery and Doobies blames the slaves.

Cheers...

That's why Ann Coulter is always the mouthpiece of choice against feminism and JC Wattsis always used to rail against affirmative action. Same reason Michelle Malkin wrote a book defending the internment camps of WWII.

I agree with what he said, most countries in the world require applicants that wish to emigrate have a certain criteria of credentials: ie: Speak their language, have certain skills that make them a citizen that would be positive to the adopting country, and enter the country on a legal basis... Not so hard to understand IMO...

I own a get away property in the US and pay taxes, and obey the laws by crossing via the US crossings as designated by law. What is so difficult with this process?

is why anyone would say this:

I agree with what he said, most countries in the world require applicants that wish to emigrate have a certain criteria of credentials: ie: Speak their language, have certain skills that make them a citizen that would be positive to the adopting country, and enter the country on a legal basis

No, other countries do not apply those criteria to sponsored immediate family members of current legal permanent residents, who are what seem to be in issue here. Let's not mix our apples and oranges here.

(edit: re "enter the country on a legal basis"; duh. Other countries do apply that one. So does the US.)

Canada, e.g., requires knowledge of an official language, and certain skills, in the case of independent immigrants: people seeking to immigrate on their own merits.

So does the U.S.

Both countries impose much lower criteria in the case of immediate family members whom a legal permanent resident or naturalized citizen or citizen by birth wishes to sponsor for immigration. In those cases, the main bars are certain kinds of health problems and criminal records.

Some people in the U.S. really should stop playing the long-suffering, soft-hearted hero/victim in these sorts of things. The U.S. is no less stringent than any other country when it comes to immigration criteria ... and in fact more stringent than some.

Canada, for instance, does not impose immigration quotas by country of origin, and does not treat a citizen of the UK who was born a citizen of Pakistan as a Pakistani for the purposes of the quotas (which Canada doesn't have), which the U.S. does.

29. Immigrants who come today learn English just as fast, if not faster
than immigrants who came in the 19th century.

Mine spoke English when they got here, but that was because the gaddamed English had spread their language all over Ireland and suppressed the native language.

These requirements are all there to legally immigrate and become a citizen - the illegals are illegal because they don't fall into the categories that would make them legal, and they speak English as much as any other blue collar laboring group that immigrated ever did.

8. Didn't that already happen? Vikings came, then other Europeans, now look at it
Europeans brought slaves, people following people, immigrants following family and friends. Look at the USA. So many immigrated. I remember when there used to be only a few hundred thousand people here, and even before that, before they came over the Siberian land bridge or across the oceans. There used to be NONE!!! Those darn imigrants.

This is fear mongering bullshit although, looking at it historically, it was true.

I am here since 1994 and have not brought ANY one of my family members to this country...I work hard, pay my taxes, pay my bills on time, have a credit rating of over 790, and do NOT break any laws (never even got a ticket).

The only time I bring family over is when my parents visit me and spent thousands of dollars for three weeks a year and then return back home.

He is a f*cking a**hole. I am so tired of that bullshit. Where did he and his ancestors come from? May I assume he is not Native American?

12. Over-Population
I didn't see Lou Dobbs this evening ... but 'legal' immigration is a problem, too.

The visa programs that brings in professionals from other countries who are willing to work for low wages -- that's a problem. 'Chain-migration' from Mexico, India, Canada or Russia is a problem.

You see, too much legal and illegal immigration will lower wages and benefits in this country.

Furthermore, we are already a nation of 300+ million people. Our lifestyles are the most polluting, energy consuming, materialistic and resource wasteful on the planet. The global warming phenomenon is screaming to us that we as a species cannot afford anymore humans living like Americans.

If we want to keep some semblance of our standard of living (and it is going to have to change no matter what), then we have got to figure out a way to stop our population growth and start reversing the trend.

By the way, you know, not everything is about race.

28. He's right
But with the quotas and processing times involved, it would take about 1000 years to get that 200th person legally here.

If you get your green card in 2005 you can be a citizen by 2010, though processing time would guarantee it will actually be about 2012 by the time you are actually sworn in. You can then turn around and file for your parents and even your brothers and sisters from the old country, but the brothers and sisters quota will not be current for them until about 2032. If they live that long, they can immigrate legally.

In the meantime, your parents can come over, but they're old already.

So in theory your brothers and sisters can marry people from the old country, who can become citizens in about 2040, and then file for their parents and their brothers and sisters, who will be here in about 2065.
