For Any Iran Contra Aficionados - a Georgie Porgie Poem

Georgie Porgie I

Georgie Porgie pudding and pie,
Chose Dan Quayle and reason asks why.
Quayle’s Senate aide Owen was up to his knees
In “Contra” banned comics and Ollie North Sleaze.
“Founding Father” Rodriguez, Ollie’s ticket down south,
kept Donald Gregg’s notebook, brim full with his mouth.
Now Georgie and Gregg must have talked now and then
Could Gregg have told Georgie of Quayle’s V.P. Yen?
And Georgie thought, hell, this guy knows much too much,
So bring him aboard and press down on his clutch.
So Danny was summoned and threw quite a fit,
For a job that was less “than a pitcher of spit.”
And Georgie could rest now with knowledge supreme,
That Dan was co-opted and part of the team.

Georgie Porgie II

Georgie Porgie Puddin and Pie,
Crossed the Potomac and started to lie.
Lied about the contra thing,
His Panama past had a similar ring.
Went way down south to throttle a pimp,
To scuttle his image of being a wimp.
The press and the congress bowed down to this hawk,
And even Mike Royko surrendered his squawk.
Now 24 kids lie deep in the ground,
While the White House keeps grabbing at short bites of sound
And Georgie Opines this was God’s given mission,
While most of us know it was right-wing ignition.

Georgie Porgie III

Georgie Porgie pudding and pie
Encouraged Iraq’s aggression through April Glaspie’s lie*
Now Georgie knew Saddam was the perfect excuse
To resurrect Icons of fiscal abuse.
The stealth and the patriot were slipping away
In a world that used sanctions to stop disarray.
So Georgie and Scocroft and Cheney and Powell,
Forced Congress to waffle and throw in the towel,
Four hundred thousand young men in their prime
Were placed in the desert to wait a short time.
And Saddam, whose ego was equally thick
Was told “To get out or get his ass kicked.”
And Saddam complied as Georgie had planned,
By Hunkering down in Kuwait’s borrowed sand.
Dynamics and Douglas and Honeywell
Stopped bankrupt proceedings, they had weapons to sell.
The peace dividend, their most recent concern
Was back in their bank account, meeting adjourned.

Georgie Porgie IV

Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie,
Sees Thomas and Gates as assets to promulgate his lie.
Now the CIA is essential to a government run by stealth
To assure the guys with money that his tenure is their health.
Gates fits the programmed make believe
Like a hand fits in a glove.
He’ll run this vaunted agency
Like an empty headed dove.
He’ll remember very little
Of what he’s party to.
And someday in the future
He’ll coo: I never knew
Now Thomas is an absolute in Georgie’s power plan.
He’ll tip the scales of justice right into Georgie’s hand.
He’ll strip the poor, the needy and those hanging by a thread.
And blame it on the democrats for following poor old Ted,
And Roe v Wade will tumble like windblown Texas weeds.
And Clarence’s proclivities will answer other needs.
So watch the show in Washington, the scenario is set
For Georgie Porgie’s Monarchy, wait, the concrete is still wet.

Jack Woltjen

(My father wrote this around the time I was in college, and I was not very interested in politics at that time. It seemed to fit in with the DU milieu. My sister has the original and sent me a copy today.)

3. You'd think Dick Cheney would have a toupee by now.
I mean it's amazing that he was bald back then. It reminds me of this: "In 458 BC: The Greek playwright Aeschylus was killed when an eagle dropped a live tortoise on him, mistaking his bald head for a stone." Man, Dick should watch out! :sarcasm:

4. LIARS then, Liars now. Are the Sandinista terrorists on the Texas border yet? Rhetoric to haunt Rs
Excellent. What was the date?

Given the current lies leading to war, an examination of past lies is in order.

One of my favorite whoppers is that the tiny nation of Nicaragua was an invasion threat to Texas. Reagan and George Bush deprived the nation and the world of sleep with rhetorical worries that the terrorist cabal controlling the government of Nicaragua had to be militarily overthrown to prevent the invasion of Texas. Reagan said Nicaragua, "is establishing a base camp for Cuban-Soviet aggression on the North American mainland."

6. Thanks
I don't know the exact date. My father passed away several years ago, and my sister got this poem. He had it blown up and it was on his wall. It was sometime during Bush's Presidency. The first one was only President for one term thank goodness.

He knew what Bush was up to.

7. also to add
My father had a lot of character incarnations in his life. He was kind of like the character in Mosquito Coast that Harrison Ford plays, though not as crazy. He liked to do everything his own way though.

9. You're welcome
You're right, he did know them. The Iraq war was something they wanted for a long time and many of the players are right there in the picture.
