6. The stupid Puke Mayor of Tulsa
is proposing to add a new fee to city water and sewage bills to fund police and fire salaries following significant layoffs.

Lots of folks fed up here. But it's a good ole boy town in a red state. Hard to throw the bums out.

2. Damn, thats basically just around the corner
to me...haven't been on I-44 for a while though, but its constantly in the local news for accidents and what not. I believe one of the worlds biggest McDonald's is on that route as well.

11. The McDonalds that goes over the highway?
Edited on Wed Jun-02-10 09:51 PM by Coyote_Bandit
You gotta be careful on that highway. Lots of bad wrecks. And bad cops.

I'd steer clear of this corner for awhile if I were you.

4. What the news story doesn't mention
Edited on Wed Jun-02-10 09:46 PM by Coyote_Bandit
is all the road contruction in the immediate and surrounding area of the sinkhole. Travel there was difficult before this.

Rush hour is going to be UGLY until this is fixed. The capacity of local city arterial streets is already compromised before adding all the additional traffic.

9. It might get fixed pretty quickly. (fingers crossed)
On I-95 a few years back just south of Fredericksburg a tanker truck carrying sulfuric acid (I believe) wrecked and spilled. Ate the asphalt through and shut down all three lanes of I-95. This is a major artery in VA. If I remember right they had to completely dig out 1800 feet of the entire highway, break down lanes and all. They had it back up and running the next day. They must have hauled in a lot of equipment. I remember a normal 30 minute drive home take over 5 hours that day and that was through back roads. I didn't even use the highway that day.

In fact here's a link to it.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/07/AR2005070701063.html

I was shocked they got the highway open for evening rush hour the next day. Over 20 miles of solid not moving gridlock.

8. Point Taken - But
I wouldn't be surprised if this one gets a whole lot wider. There has been significant work done to the north of the interstate where this happened. They've installed new drainage in anticipation of widening I-44 in the next couple of years. That drainage is wide enough and deep enough to drive 3 semis side by side through it. And it's going to be under that new highway.

I'd bet somebody screwed up the install or cut some corners and that is what caused this sinkhole.

7. We should all give thanks to our REPUBLICAN elected officials for this.
Edited on Wed Jun-02-10 09:40 PM by AndyA
Sen. James Inhofe
Sen. Tom Coburn
Rep. John Sullivan

The roads in this area have been unsafe for YEARS. They all complain about how bad big government is.

You ARE BIG GOVERNMENT. All three of you have FAILED to represent the people in this state for a long time.

All of them voted against health care reform. (And are now busy trying to opt Oklahoma out of it.)

All of them voted against the stimulus. (But have taken credit for it.)

This sinkhole is the result of years of abuse at the hands of Republicans running this state into the ground.

Thanks for nothing, assholes. Take your toys and go somewhere else, OK? :puke:
