Yeah, I know - pretty out there...

But I'm thinking Rhodesia, South Africa, Australia, Canada and of course - THE USA.

I am beginning to think the main sucess factor was either disease or intermarrying.

For the second aspect may I bring to your attention Jamaica. Most whites didn't leave, they just intermarried. Today, pretty much any Jamaican has English, Asian Indian and African ancestry.

Then you have Rhodesia and South Africa. They failed to integrate until the last possible minute, and after that, it was too late.

Add to this the third option of Canada and Australia. The "white" immigrants simply outnumbered the locals, and took over accordingly.

One might say the US was built upon exploitation - whether the locals or slaves - we exploited.

How racist is it to believe that only Caucasians ever enslaved, killed, or exploited anybody? How insufferably insular is it?

There were, linguistically speaking, FOUR waves of the early immigrants we now call Native Americans. Dig into the ground and you find fortified towns. You fortify when you expect someone is coming to kill you. You find skeletons in the almost inaccessible pueblos with arrows in their skulls. Friendly visits? All pre-European conquest.

There are, in Africa, approximately SEVEN races of people with black skin. They have all, always, been charming to each other. Sure, they have. Especially charming when they raided other tribes for captives to sell as slaves to all the maritime nations.

And then there's all the bloody fun of Asia. Ever heard of Genghis Khan? Think he conquered into Europe by holding tea parties? How about Attila the Hun? Flaming Sword of Islam? Didn't they ever tell you how the Moorish architecture wound up in Spain? Think it was a trade fair? Ottoman Empire?

Your statement reeks of belief in cultural and military superiority of white people, even while pretending to look for other reasons, with a delicate moral shudder.

Or do you think the Spanish colonizers did a better job of mixing with the original inhabitants? There was widespread immigration to Argentina and other South American countries in the 19th and 20th centuries as well as to the US.

There have been arguments made for African, Chinese and Jewish origins of the Olmecs, based upon facial features and cranial measurements (which were a popular, and fairly racist way to determin skull ethnicity).
No respected Mesoamericans truly believe these theories. But perhaps you can enlighten us.

What is going on here in Arizona is a result of the growing true native populations returning to their lands. Some white folk here don't like the fact that future projections indicate they may soon become the minority - again. We "hispanics" or "latinos" or "mestizos" or whatever you want to call us are in fact indigenous to this hemisphere and this continent. The fact that we all have had the Spanish language for upon us by colonial rule does not make us foreigners. The conquest of our lands does not make us lesser peoples.
