I love the interaction between the dad and his son.

1. That's a great commercial.
You can just read the kid's mind - "so, when are we going to have this conversation? Maybe now is a good time . . . "

Just hope dad doesn't choke on his Big Mac.

2. Wouldn't selling McDonald's food to gay people be anti-gay?
Considering how deadly their food is. Maybe they can make the french fat and die of more obesity related health problems just like Americans.

3. I wanna know what they serve in those French McDonald's!
It would be great to see what they have up on the board...I'll bet it's good!

5. I've been to France, but never to MacDo's over there (a common French expression)
There were just too many things to try when I was over there to eat at McDonald's!

7. same with me in Italy. I passed by one in Florence but I figured what the hell
do I need to waste my time in McDonald's with all these wonders to see and not enough time anyway...

I'm going back to Florence for a much longer stay in September so I'll have a chance to duck into one and check out the menu board...maybe even take a napkin souvenir...my grandkids would think it's a hoot...

8. We're planning a trip to South America. I'd like to eat at one in Argentina
I understand they actually broil them over flame there.

Actually, I'd really like to take a trip to Argentina/Chile, Patagonia. AND Buenos Aires which I hear is a great city of the world.

4. I don't like it. The dad has no clue as to who his son is. The son looks at his dad and thinks...
"You fucking stupid moron."

6. I think the kid looks at his dad like, "You're so clueless but I love you anyway,"
Which is exactly the way I looked at my mom when I was still in school. Actually, who am I kidding? I still look at her that way sometimes.

Their interaction seemed very real to me, and it was nice to see a gay person in a romantic conversation without some kind of offensive subtext. Just two people who are involved, just like anyone else.

13. Yes, the cell phone conversation was nice. A tender moment. But dad came across...
as a complete doofus. It seemed, to me at least, that dad took not the slightest interest in his son's life.

It was depressing that the kid was going to have to go through all that shit with him.

17. That was the writer's way
of saying that there were no girls in the class, and confirming that the young man in this commercial was speaking quasi-romantically to a fellow male.

Yes, the dad was clueless, but it's not like that never happens in real life. It actually contains the seeds of hope, a father who will go out to lunch with his teenaged son may care enough about him to accept him as who he is, once he knows the truth.

16. Aw. That's really good! Too bad they can't run that in "Anti-gay Bible-thumpin' by-GOD Amurka"!
People would start looking sideways at their french fries.

This country REALLY needs to grow up.

18. It's really sad that they can't
Such a mild commercial, something that hits on the universality of young love without ever exceeding a G rating, and you know people would just lose their shit over it if it were shown here. How sad.

27. Agree. Fred Phelps would throw a temper-tantrum that would
make a 3-year old blush if they ran that ad in Hamilton, Ohio, or Chattanooga or Macon. The fundies would flood the streets with torches and pitchforks and poorly-spelled signs.

19. I have to admit they did this one right.
Still not interested in ordering any food from their menu, though.

It would be interesting if McDonald's ran a similar ad in say, Oklahoma City or Jackson or Amarillo.

21. I agree

I admit that I sometimes will get a Egg McMuffin and a hashbrown from McDonald's. The last time I did this was almost a year ago, after my brother died. For some reason, it's comfort food for me. Also, KFC is a requirement when there's a crisis. "Oh no! Aunt Sue is sick! Let's pick up a bucket of chicken on our way to the house!" It's almost Pavlovian- someone's sick, break out the chicken.

I yearn for the day when McDonald's can run such an ad in the United States.

23. Not a chance
Everyone knows that eating at McDonald's equals instant death. Didn't you see the documentary on it where the guy eats at McDonald's in moderation and the result is horrible medical issues?

:sarcasm:

26. I don't know about Mickey D's in France, but
their store on the GranVia in Madrid is spectacular. Dark wood paneling, easy chairs with coffee tables, chandeliers. I didn't eat there -- just went in to pee, but it was a real eye opener. More like a classy coffee shop.
