1. Yes, they sure do!

The seem to have to cut away the peripheral pipes before they can snip the riser with the 46,000 pound shear.

The shear to cut off the riser:



Then they'll use a diamond wire saw to cut off the riser in the horizontal plane just above the BOP:

2. That would be really hard not feeling how much pressure you're applying.

I have to say, watching these guys is pretty impressive. I wish their higher-ups were this competent. But then, that's true almost anywhere.

3. There must be some kind of pressure sensors on the ROV and gauges for the pilot

I have no direct knowledge of this but it seems like there would have to be some way for the ROV pilots to know how much pressure they are exerting with the arms of the ROV.

Has to be. Can't see any way around it.
