Poll question: Do you work for the Government?
I recently attended a meeting for government employees and was struck by how embarrased many of them seemed to be to be working for the Government; my state is somewhat conservative (although a swing state), and several classes I attended explained that Government workers should expect contracting economic possibilities.

Thinking about tha I got curious how many DUers work for a Government in some capacity?

1. I'm proud of my government position.
I consider it service in a capacity that is not any less important or patriotic than my years in the uniform of the U.S. Army.

And fuck anyone who says otherwise.

2. I'm a temp worker for the government as a census worker, and I too was struck how many people made
fun of or were embarrassed by government work. I spoke up every time.

6. When I was a fed employee, I was very proud of it
I worked in a safety field, and was committed and dedicated to what I was doing to help prevent fatalities and mitigate injuries. I put in a lot of unpaid OT, and I found it remarkable when an employee at a state safety agency expressed surprise that a fed would give out his HOME phone number.

"Bureaucracy" doesn't deserve the negative connotation that it has. Bureaucracy is how government accomplishes the things we value. Yet it seems it's only when people screw up the proper functioning of government that it's called "bureaucracy."

I salute public employees who are serving today and trying to do their best to make the system work to benefit society.

10. Bigotry might be too strong a word in this case
the Conservative idea that govenrment workers are essential parasites and that to make a real contribution to our society you go into business, though, is pretty well accepted, at least unconsciously or for political reasons.

11. I was a Fed from 1969 to 1985 and was paid at GS-9 and 11 levels
to do grad work at major universities with li9ving expenses away from home and fees paid also. I just had to take the classes to qualify me for positions I already occupied. I also later worked as a consultant for the Feds and did academic work supported by Fed grants. I set my quit date by the day I did not have to re-pay for the commitment in service during the Reagan administration. I was also a studenbt at Cal Berkeley when Reagan was guv and personally argued with my Dad -- who adored FDR but also Reagan and supposrted Dole -- a WWII and depression vet

I haven't worked for the Feds since 1985 nor consulted since 1996 so don't fit your categories.
