Study: Wealthy gentlemen prefer blondes
Bad news for Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie. Blondes make more dough, and marry better, finds an economist looking at U.S. wage data.

In the Economics Letters journal report, David Johnston of Australia's Queensland University of Technology, looked at white women respondents to the 1979 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, questioned yearly or every other year up to 2006. Among the women, hair color is "light blonde (1.6%), blonde (19.0%), light brown (21.8%), brown (51.2%), black (2.4%) and red (4.0%)."

The study data shows that blonde women have slightly higher wages than others, despite "no systematic differences in education, Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) scores, immigrant status or marital status," says the study. "From these raw statistics it appears that differences in wages by hair color are not driven by differences in productivity."

But blondes really have more fun on the marriage market, finds the study. "Blonde women are no more or less likely to be married; but, their spouse's wages are around 6% higher than the wages of other spouses."

1. Interesting.
I'm of the persuasion that you make the most of yourself, so that nobody notices your hair color, beyond thinking that you look great.

Hair color needs to be irrelevant.

4. Looks need to be irrelevant, period,
but the world is still run by men and men still have those pesky little undiscovered sex organs attached to their eyeballs.

Until we are a nation of the blind, expect the poor things to be drawn toward skinny blondes and away from competent women of other sizes, shapes, and hair colors.

what I'm saying is, don't despair if you aren't blonde, single women. Love and lust happen even for those of us who have brown hair. Thank God.

3. Any one can be blonde
Just get out the old bleach bottle, and many of the present "blondes" have done this. And Megan and Angelina make their own dough.

7. Perhaps women who seek monetary improvement in marriage just happen to also prefer blond...
and it's cultural history?

Maybe women need to start changing these norms. We have tried blaming. It clearly doesn't work. We need to change ourselves and our daughters.

11. there are so many reasons this is a stupid study. regardless...
i dont think anyone with any particular specifics in appearances need be bothered.

i never felt a lack because i wasnt blonde. nor have i ever been attracted to blonde. i like dark..... we have our preferences, some more so than others.

17. The effects of physical attraction ....
... only last until you get to know someone. A beautiful woman with far right wing political leanings will only appeal to me until I know her better.

On the other hand, it's easy for me to be attracted to someone kind, pleasant, caring, thoughtful and concerned for the well being for all of us, regardless of her physical appearance.

'Course maybe that's just me.

18. Could it be a race thing?
just because the people taking the survey self identified themselves as white doesn't mean their peers view them as white. Darker hair predominates among the races at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder.

21. Really good point. Hispanics as a group have lower incomes and are more likely
to have dark hair, whatever the shade of their skin.

22. Excuse my French, but who the f*&*k cares what they prefer?

Women always having to meet some ridiculuous standard from men.

Blonde is better.

Bigger boobs are better.

Thinner is better.

And, the top one of them all, YOUNG is better (young is really stupid and not onto what the deal with men really is)...

25. According to several sources I found, less than 2% of the world's population
is naturally blonde, so I would wager that many of the blondes in this study really aren't. I can also tell you, as a natural blonde, that the "benefits" of being blonde are not universal.

32. They mention nothing about age.

A lot of women go blonde when they get older because the silver/gray/white blends in with it better. And people tend to make more money as they age.

34. Oh dear
'Wealthy', is it? With 6% higher "wages" I don't associate "wages' with "wealth" particularly. I suspect the study included soul less and unimaginative corporate drones. What the fuck ever. Anyway, I'm sure Ms. Jolie is quite satisfied with her hair color. AND her income.

God Bless the Chile that's Got Her Own, is what I got to say to this article. Jesus it's stupid.

On the other hand, It's fine to admire blond hair. I rarely see a blond man I find attractive, but there have been a few spectacular exceptions.
